I have a 07 GMC Yukon that always ran fine today I
had been driving for about a hour when the oil
pressure went up to 65 it has always ran 40-50
when driving and it always idles around 20-30 also
when I turn the engine off and turn key back on oil
pressure gauge shows 20 without the engine
running I was wondering what would be the
problem and if it's leading to something else thank
you for your help.

The gauge shows a steady 60. when I letoff of it iidles at 40 I was thinking it might be the sending unit but i wasn't for sure it's got 170,000 and has never really had any problems beside the oil composition problem that they all seem to have t
Would the sending unit cause it to show theirs pressure in the gauge with the engine off?
Yes that is a must on cleaning the screen under the oil pressure sending unit. 2007 is when GM started putting that in and do get clogged up causing a false oil pressure reading. Still replace the oil sending unit.
I agree with Rowefast, replace the sender and clean the screen.
