Hi, I am looking to buy a 2006 Mercury Mountaineer Premier, what are the "big maintenances" that I am going to encounter at this age of the vehicle? Thanks for your time and help I really appreciate.

If it's a 4x4, have the front axles, carrier and hubs Thoroughly inspected. You didn't state which engine is in it but the V6 and V8 engines are very reliable. Next in line would be the Automatic Transmission and then the Fuel Pump.
