When I am in 4 WD and turn even a gradual turn, my wheels engage like I am in a tight turn, feels like binding, moaning, changed front diff and transfer case (no metal shavings).

Asked by mobilemayhem Feb 20, 2015 at 12:44 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 LT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Took it to a transmission shop and he did not know what it was for sure.  He thinks it is
probably something in the transfer case.  It does not do this when driving in Auto.  Any
ideas what it could be?  -- Thanks

Tires are the same and air pressure is within a lb or 2. The problem was occurring before I changed the fluid, the fluid did not look too bad and I used the blue GM fluid to replace. Would the gear ratios change? This has never acted like this before. I have taken it to a transmision shop and he said that it was not the front differential He thought it may be some warn clutches in the transfer case and there are 9 in there. He does not feel that it would be a problem to leave it and the worst thing to happen is the clutches would ware out and would need to be replaced but it would not cause any other more costly problems. He estimated $600 to $700 to do this. He also mentioned running it in Auto instead of 4Hi so it would only engage like this when it starts to slip. What do you think Mr. tennisshoes? -- Thanks
