Love it but can't trust the sucker!

Asked by coastiegirl May 03, 2013 at 07:12 AM about the 2002 Jaguar X-TYPE 3.0L AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Jaguar 2002 x type that runs great for weeks/months, then all of a sudden it will stop shifting like there is a transmission problem.Dash warning says,"gearbox fault". Had it checked and after clearing the codes, the trannies could find nothing wrong. Could this be an electrical problem? I bought a cheap code reader to clear codes when it happens next as this is easier and faster than disconnecting the battery and waiting. Thanks for any help!

"Could this be an electrical problem?" --- yes it can. Two words "Lucus Electrical". We had to repair new Lucus parts before we installed them on our rallye cars. Lucas makes refrigerators too - that's why the British drink warm beer. --- The X type is a beautiful car. Keep the code reader handy and log how often you have to reset it. The information might be handy if the problem escalates.
