Stabilitrak and traction control light going off with blinking check engine light and rough idle
Asked by Divedavid Aug 22, 2017 at 05:21 PM about the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTZ Crew Cab 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
From everything I've read this
seems to be a common problem
from the 5.3 with no resolution on
problem maybe somebody should
start a class action suit against
Chevrolet to fix this problem
where to recall.

ususally a flashing check engine light indicates a misfire, best to have the codes check first and see which cylinders are misfiring, could be something as simple as spark plugs or a loose vaccum hose, same with stability trac, module needs to be scanned for codes first
So read the codes and everything and it came up P0 300 which is a general misfire went through switch coils two different cylinders coils are okay went through disconnected injectors one at a time until engine stuttered. Cylinder 7 no change when disconnected ordered fuel injector we'll see if cures problem
p0300 indicate random cylinder misfire, usually the cause is 2 or more cylinders misfiring, if you know someone with a higher end scanner that does live data you can actually see which cylinders are misfiring in real time (makes things a lot easier).
The biggest problem with cylinder 7. Cylinder 2 had an occasional misfire so replacing both but definitely not as bad as number 7
And we were looking at it live as it was doing it with the scanner.
Two new fuel injectors on cylinder 2 and cylinder 7 all new plug wires and plugs and new coil pack on 7 problem solved runs great
Mine was a chewed through wire on the #2 coil pak(the red wire), stabiltrak and traction lights, DIC indication of both off, flashing check engine light, rough idle hard 1-2 shift.Repaired the connection and all is good so far.

I am having the same issue with the Stabilitrak. The light came on it is idling real rough and there is a ticking noise. I have searched and searched and this seems to be a common problem I have contacted a lawyer who represented the Dex Cool case back in 2008. I need help getting this thing going so please contact me on here. I had my motor rebuilt in 2015 because I lost compression on number 7 cylinder I spent over $3,000 having the motor rebuilt. Let's get this thing going because GM is aware of this problem and has done nothing to help resolve it so the more people we get the better case we will have. I cannot afford to have my motor rebuilt every few years and I am not going to pay to have a motor rebuilt that only has 27,000 miles on it.

Please help me get this going. If enough people come together then we can get these issues resolved. I've already contacted an attorney. Email me Chrisdmc2075@gmail.com
Am having same issue with my 2012 Silverado. I can disconnect the battery and after re connecting it when I start the truck all seems normal until I put it I drive and the stabilitrack, check engine light come on and the engine runs very rough. The truck is currently at the local chevy dealer where I bought it in 2012. They basicly want to rebuild the engine but I can’t afford the expense. Seems to me that if every thing resets after disconnecting the battery there mst be a simple solution with out replacing everything and hoping it solves the problem.

I replaced the plugs in mine and so far it's been ok but I know there's more to it than just the plugs. Email me at chrisdmc2075@gmail.com. I've talked to a lawyer so get in touch with me
I had Stabilitrak and traction control lights along with flashing check engine. The idle was rough. Problem is one of the variable lifters is stuck. Pulled the valve cover and one wasn't working. Costly job to repair.
Hey, I recently had my 08 Silverado ls having bad shifts like, only shifting if I take the foot off the the gas and hit it again. The power is too low doesn't go over 60miles and blinks the check engine and traction control lamps every time I try to overtake. Can somebody help please?.
exact problem as stated in the title and had ignition coil 7, spark plugs and plug wires replace now all is back to normal
My car (2015 Traverse) did this same thing today for the second time in 2 weeks. While accelerating (maybe 40mph at that point) the stability/traction control flashes and states that its turning on and off, while the check engine light flashes. Power is obviously lost and the car is no longer accelerating/is acting funny. Kind of scary, especially with my kids in the vehicle! Both episodes lasted maybe 1 minute total, then the car is fine. I took it in to our certified dealership and they couldnt find the issue. They said 1 cylinder showed a misfire, but they arent sure why. They did look at the spark plugs and said those were fine. I did call GM corporate because I noticed this seems to be a common GM issue......anyone have a REAL fix for this issue?!
Same problem here. Dealership said a bad lifter on cylinder 7. Seems unlikely, and they want $4,000 to repair. Hoping to find out more soon.
2014 GMC Sierra 1500. As of last night, it is showing the exact same symptoms as others have listed. Rough idle, stabilitrak light on, flashing check engine, rough shifting, and a loud tick coming from the driver side top of engine. Fired it up this morning after disconnecting the battery, and while the tick is a little quieter (not by much), all other symptoms remain the same. Add another one to the lawsuit. I won’t be spending $4k+ on a rebuild as I haven’t even made my first payment yet. (Looks like I should have kept my perfectly running Duramax w/ 340k Miles).

Our 2008 Suburban just started doing this. Check engine light flashing, stabila track on screen. I replaced all spark plugs and wires. No change. I don't have buckets of money to throw at this. The government shouldn't have bailed out this shady company. They should have failed just like other businesses. Never again Chevy.
got a few other opinions on mine, and verified it is somewhat common for the lifters to fail on these. Mine has 118K miles, so I guess i'm glad we made it this far. Luckily I found someone who used to work at a dealership who can help with the repairs for much less than what dealership wanted. Could be worse I guess? Good luck everyone!

I have a 2008 GMC Serra. I have a similar issue: the stabilitrak and traction control light come on and the check engine light flashes every time I press the eccelerator about half way when going up hill. Has anyone had the same issue?
I have a 2010 Silverado, and had this happen twice. First time was a bad spark plug. This time, all spark plugs are in good condition. Waiting for family member to bring a scanner. Guessing it will say misfire somewhere. Chris, I'm in.

I have a 09 Silverado 1500 just recently started the rough idle service stabiltrak and traction control. All happened at the same time kinda weird
I have the same issues as the title. I had this issue once before about 3,000 miles ago and the dealer replaced my spark plug and that fixed the problem. Now I realize that isn’t the root cause of the issue but if that’s the only thing that’s going bad is it better for me to spend $1000 on spark plugs over the life of the truck and just replace them myself every 3,000 Miles or spend $4,000 on fixing the root cause of the issue? Obviously I’m not happy with this but does anyone know of any other issues this is causing other than the spark plugs to go out?
I have a 2014 Silverado 5.3L V8 with 39k miles. A couple months ago I had check engine light with code P050D, cold start rough idle. I’ve tried every cheap fix...higher octane fuel, seafoam thru the tank and throttle body, cleaned mass airflow sensor. Truck has idled rough for awhile... dealership shimmed the engine mounts, but it didn’t fix anything. Now I’m getting the flashing CIL with the stabilitrak on briefly when I start it. My Bluetooth OBDII scanner shows a misfiring #6 cylinder, which has gotten worse over the past week. Code P0306 is now present with the P050D. I’m hoping it’s just a spark plug or fuel injector at worst. A 39k mile truck shouldn’t have misfire issues...unacceptable for a vehicle that costs as much as it does. Most annoying thing is that it takes a lot of trial and error to diagnose and finally fix, which can mean several trips back and forth to the shop when they think they fixed something but actually didn’t. My plan is to have a local repair shop test for plug or injector issues since I’m out of bumper to bumper warranty by 3K miles, ugh. If it’s still a problem, I’m probably looking at an AFM lifter issue. That would fall under the powertrain warranty, and GM can pay for the repairs and loaner truck instead of me while they fiddle with it for who knows how long.
Hello guys I'm back on the road after a month of try and error and finally I got to the problem!. All scanners will tell you some code always but the problem comes with miscommunication btn the ecu and it's sensors. You just need a system reboot simple!
Same issue out of the blue. I am going to have the code read today but it is under extended warranty so hopefully the dealership will fix it.

2011 Silverado 1500 with 5.3L. Rough idle, only occasionally the stabilitrak light comes on. Scanned and got the same P0300 code. Going to swap plugs and wires for now and see if that will help out. I'll try and scan live data one of these days and see what I come up with.
I have an 08 Sierra 6.0. Same issues. Tried plugs and wires with no fix. Codes are the same with misfires. The first time this happened it was cylinder 1 misfire. The sound and way the engine was running I knew it to be the lifter but my ten year old truck with only 80k miles should not be having this issue. Took to dealer and they said 4K to change all lifters or 7k to replace engine. I’m not a newby around engines so I changed the AFM lifter in cylinder 1. The truck ran like a dream. Then 7 months later cylinder 7 AFM lifter went bad. Guess what? Two months later it’s doing it yet again for cylinder 1. If this is going to be an issue for everyone that has these series of trucks then I suggest y’all sell your vehicles and get something else. This problem isn’t going to stop on the first fix it seems.
I have same problem on my 07 silverado, code for stabilitrak problems and fuel injector 8; this the third time time happen, I has replaced the brake light switch (29.95) each time before, this always seem to work, it restored curse control, brakes light, lack of power, rough shifting, and stabilizing service message, reset code and no more engine light, until next time, I have posted many time on craiglist to sale this junk, I purchased a Ram in 2010;found it hard to recoup the $23000, out the Chevy thinking of giving this headache to my oldest
2011 Cruze, been back to the dealership THREE times with this same issue. Four months ago they said they replaced the coils, plugs, etc. Sunday (two days ago) it did it once again. Car doesn't seem to want to shift when this happens. Extended warranty just expired (go figure). Suggestions.....
I have this issue as well and this isn’t the first time! A year ago I had to have 2 cylinders rebuilt the dealership I bought it from said it had 2 dead cylinders the first time the problem would come and go then it stayed till I paid $3500 to have the 2 cylinders rebuilt last night it happened again! 2007 Yukon 5.3 I was told by the dealership that it is common with the engines that shut down cylinders when at a steady speed! Mine goes from V8 mode to v4 mode! I was told it is a design flaw and I should have had that shit off when they rebuilt it because it has now caused the same issue! I feel like if it’s a design flaw and a known issue than the should offer a recall but there is so many of these engines out there they would go bankrupt
2015 Silverado LT True North, driving today in town, all of the sudden engine shows signs of light choking, a few hundred meters after choking increases, and orange enfin light goes on, pulled to the sideway right away and turned it off. Got towed to GM dealer, tomorrow Ill have news, I hope is not the same issue everyone is describing here, though I did not see a Stabilitrack light going on mine.......
I have a ,2011 gmc serria sle same problem you guys are having I have changed all my lifters, spark plugs, coil packs ,wires nothing has changed, BUT I have a great fix soon as I can will trade for a NISSAN
I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado Z71, 8 cyl, with about 121,000 miles. Last month I very foolishly let the oil get about a quart low (had never been low before), and ended up spending 1600 to have lifters fixed, cam shaft broke, etc. When I picked it up after repairs, the traction light and stabilitrak lights were on, and the mechanic said the computer had to re-learn, and the lights should go out. They haven't gone out, and the fuel sensor (maybe it's check engine light but indication from machine at Advance Auto said a fuel sensor needed replacing - bought a part but haven't had it installed yet) light came on (it has before, but I filled the tank with ethanol free fuel and added a fuel cleaner). The light went off for a few days but came back on. Yesterday the light started flashing, and the engine started knocking like crazy. I was about 10 miles from home, so I drove it home and let it cool. It sounded just like it did when the lifters went, so I was afraid the oil had gotten low again - it was fine. I'm 16 miles from civilization - is it safe to drive it that far? Can't afford a wrecker!
Dont drive it and have it towed to GM authorized service is the best thing you can do.
Have a 2012 Chevrolet Silverado with these exact symptoms. Friday while running errands, check engine light started flashing, stabilatrak sensor started going nuts and the traction control was turning off and on. There is no knock but definitely a misfire or loss of power. Dont even know where to begin and dont have the money to fix it. Any advice?
Interesting. My 2016 chevy cruze, 31,000 miles just had the hesitation issue with check engine light and service stabilitrak message. I bought used last year. Still have bumper to bumper. The dealership couldn't get the problem to reoccur and even with code they couldn't find anything wrong. Sigh.
I have the same problem, flashes service stabilitrak, service traction control, check engine light. I put my bluetooth code reader on it and get the P0300 code (random cylinder misfire) but didnt think too much about that, I just put some Seafoam fuel system cleaner in it but the problem only got worse. Then I get service stabilitrak message before even putting it into drive, just idling. I thought the stabilitrak message had something to do with the wheel sensors, steering angle sensor, accelerator pedal sensors. I checked all of those and everything worked fine (used a scope on wheel sensors etc.) I found out thru these forums and thru my local GM delaer service department that the service stabilitrak warning comes on for other reasons, like P0300 so that got me looking at other issues. What a waste of time, if its not a stabilitrak or traction control error why send a guy on a dead goose chase. So its idling rough and when driving has low power and limited to maybe 3000 rpm. I replaced sparkplugs, no change. cleaned MAF , no change, checked for vacuum leaks , none detected. My scanner shows Fuel system would not go into closed loop mode. I found out that it was miss firing on all bank 1 cylinders, particularly cylinder 7, bank 2 cylinders were perfect.. swapped coils and coil wires with another working cylinder, no improvement and no change. Removed fuel rail on bank one and ran some Seafoam directly thru the injectors by energizing one at a time and using compressed air, all those injectors sprayed good, I marked them and put them in different spots to see if my problem moved , slight improvement at first but short lived. Problem did not move. cylinder 7 still the major missfiring cylinder. Replaced upstream oxygen sensors, it now goes into closed loop and runs longer before getting the stabilitrak error so that helped but it still screws up just not as fast. I get a negative number on bank 1 long term fuel trim (last check -3.1)and a positive number on bank 2 long term fuel trim (last check +3.9) so it appears that bank 1 is running rich and bank 2 running lean, which bank 1 would do if it was missfiring on that side, but what came first the chicken or the egg? Is it over correcting for what it thinks is a rich mixture and then causing lean missfires or was it really rich because it was missfiring all along? For it to be rich it would have to be 1. high fuel pressure but both side see the same pressure or 2. restricted air flow but again both sides get air from the same source 3. Missfiring causing the fuel not to be burned as it leaves out the exhaust. I can't detect any vacuum leaks or exhaust leaks, at least if they are there they are not very obvious. another thing I have noticed is that it can sit there and Idle for 10 minutes without missfiring but once I rev the engine and it coasts back down to idle speed (sometimes I have to rev it up several times ) it will start missing and then turn on the service stabilitrak message. Any help would be appreciated.
Sorry but on my last post I forgot to say that My truck is a 2007 GMC Sierra 4.8l engine with around 87,000 miles.

Sell and Sew. So unfortunate when an Iconic American brand won't standup and support the customers when it's clearly called for. There's an engineering flaw that makes this such a common issue. My 09 Avalanche is experiencing these issues short of 110k soft miles.
Update: a friend of ours had a scanner so we scanned it Wednesday night, came up as a misfire on cylinder 7 and of course here was the culprit. Husband pulled the plugs Thursday and by Friday night we had them all replaced. 130$ later and all lights have gone off and truck runs better than she ever has. Hope your problems are all as simple as ours!!
Unfortunately no mine is not that simple, replaced all the plugs etc.. but its helpful to know that the stabilitrak light comes on when you have a misfire for sure. I wasnt sure what actually came first, did it miss because stabilitrak was reducing power to prevent sliding or did a missfiring cylinder cause the stabilitrak light to come on. My missfiring did not start until the stabilitrak message came on. thanks for the input
My check engine light and misfire came first then the stabilatrak sensors and reduced power. Apparently if there is a big enough misfire, it causes an imbalance or shimmy in the front end due to the engine rattling, this causes the stabilatrak to sensor. As soon as the new spark plugs were in, everything else went away. I'm so happy now, even threatened my husband to trade It in but it's my baby so I'm glad it was a simple fix.
This is just crazy reading all this. Just lost my job cause I still couldn't fix this and not enough money to get it into a shop. Changed all plugs and wire, checked the injectors found they had been replaced before I bought it so now I assume this had happened to this truck before. But now after that I get multiple misfire and now a ecu sensor code and will not even start now... Someone said a coil but now do I take the risk spending more for a truck that now won't even start.... And it seems nobody is getting the ecu sensor code like I am, am I missing something simple? 2011 1500 Silverado 5.3l, if I just put power on all the lights kick on again even after an erase of codes don't even have to start it again as it won't even do that
I have an 07 avalanche with a 5.3, it has about 180k miles and occasionally got the service traction control/stability trak and hard shift from 1st to second. The check engine light has turned on with the mentioned above and when it has I was also told it was a misfire on cylinder 1 and a slight misfire on 7 however my check engine light is not always on. I never fixed anything and It had been a while since the check engine light, stability trak and traction control lights had turned on until I recently purchased a new battery for it. Isnt this weird? Since the new battery was installed my check engine light has not turned off and I get service trac control and stability trak messages constantly going on and off. Could it be something electrical? Why would my new bat trigger this? I did look for leaks and checked all wires but I see nothing obvious, I would really like to get this fixed because when non of these lights are on, it runs great.
So, update on my issues. I will have to buy a new engine. GM will not help and if your vehicle is not worked on by GMC certified folks for regular maintenance then they will definitely not help by any means. Will never by GMC truck again. Let GM know the issues you are having, so hopefully they finally do something about all these problems.

Same exact problem...2014 Silverado LTZ Crew Cab 4x4. Just this morning coming into work, got flashing check engine light, and stabilitrack light. Ran Onstar diagnostics and they emailed me a code P0300. Also said anti-lock brakes? Maybe that’s the stabilitrack light? Truck has about 86,000 miles. It also ticks on the drivers side top of engine. Add me to the lawsuit!
BradhopeGunner131 answered 6 years ago
Okay, so here’s where I am now. I started the truck after a few hours of it sitting, and still running rough. Popped the hood and noticed the number 3 cylinder plug wire was hanging...it had come loose and fallen off the coil, still connected to the plug. No doubt this is why it was misfiring. I shut off the truck and looked at the plug wire, inside where it snaps onto the coil. White powdery corrosion, no doubt because of the two dissimilar metals touching, with heat and electric current hitting it. After snapping the wire back in place, i started the truck and headed home for repair, only the check engine light was on, and it was steady on...no blinking. So I replaced all plugs and wires, and disconnected the battery in order to reset the check engine light. Currently the truck is running smooth, and no apparent ticking anymore. Thinking the ticking was actually the sound of the spark hitting the plug wire right where it was corroded. After two drives, totaling about 30 miles, no check engine light yet. Am debating on replacing the number 3 coil since there was corrosion in there, actually the plug wire snap fell apart when I removed it from that coil. But, that was the only wire that was corroded anywhere...still replaced them all, so we shall see. Fingers crossed, I’ll keep you posted.

Just had this same issue happen in March 2018, dealer said misfire cylinder 1 changed all plugs, was fine until May29,2018... Back in dealer this morning fearful of their findings. Told possible oil leaking into cylinders.. BS... I will join the lawsuit list. truck 2010 Silverado only 92,000k on it and was well taken care of. this sucks.

2010 GMC Yukon Denali Replaced All lifters 4 months ago and today check engine light flashing, stabilitrack light on and idle rough!
!!!!!!! Time to celebrate (I think) Truck back on the road !!!! Update from my earlier reply about my 2007 GMC truck with 4.8l engine.with P0300 Service Stabilitrac, Service Traction control and Stabilitrac Off etc.. I suspected my catalytic converter was causing back pressure so I disconnected the flange on the driver side and created enough gap to allow exhaust gasses to escape without back pressure. It made no difference engine still missed, I reset all codes unless something was causing the problem in the computer. Tried it again and it still missed P0300 and stabilitrak off, service stabilitrak etc.. Now heres the strange part --- when I put the flange back on and cranked the truck the missfiringing was gone and all the other issues were gone , no codes no flashing lights, engine ran perfect but it was rattling in the catalytic converter. I thought maybe I had dropped something in the converter pipe so I took the flange loose and inspected the pipe with a mirror but there were no foreign objects in the converter or pipe as far as I could see and I was able to account for everything that could conceivably have fallen in ( 3 nuts and gasket etc.).. It still rattles but works perfect and runs better than it has in a long time. I suspect that when I removed the nuts from the flange they were frozen and I had to drive them off with a hammer and chisel. This must have broken the insides of the CAT and created better flow and the broken parts are now rattling. I drove it to work this morning and it worked perfect and had plenty of power, I do now have a code P0420 which means the converter efficiency is low, that doesnt surprise me though. If it werent for the noise I would probably leave it alone but I am going to go ahead and replace both cats and be done with it. I do want to stress one very important lesson I learned from this ordeal, "Service Stabilitrac" should have never been displayed It could have just said "Stabilitrac Off" because it was not able to work properly under the conditions with my engine missfiring but It clearly said to service the stabilitrac system and to service the traction control system. This stupid message wasted a lot of my time on a wild goose chase when the real problem was just the P0300 code and a random missfire on bank 1. An exhaust back pressure gauge would have been a nice tool to help me diagnose this problem. Note, it was not clear to me but I hope I can help other DIY guys by saying that P0300 Random missfiring turns on the Service Stabilitrac message not the other way around, I was confused because my truck would sit there and run fine for 10 minutes at times and then the Service Stabilitrac message would come on along with the audible warning dings etc then my truck would start missing so I really thought the Stabilitrac system might have been causing the missfiring and P0300 because I had read that Stabilitrac actually reduces power by cutting the pulses to the injectors on certain cylinders. Hope this helps somebody else.
08 GMC Sierra had misfire - no one could figure it out at dealer ship, finally I took valve cover off to see if it had valve train damage and found a broken valve spring. Replaced and misfire gone.
2015 GMC Yukon XL SLT 5.3 with the same flashing check engine, stabilitrac lights, rough idle, hard shift 1-2. It had 46k miles the first time, yes I’m on the 2nd round of this issue just 3 months later. Under powertrain warranty, dealer replaced a ‘collapsed lifter’ the first time, my belief it was unnecessary because before picking up they had to replace an arcing plug wire, which would cause a misfire. This second time, a different dealer is replacing all lifters, said the same lifter that was previously replaced was again broken. There was no ticking in the engine that you would get from a lifter issue in either occasion. The problem occurred both times under the exact conditions, at the exact same intersection, making the exact same left turn, slightly uphill, and hard accelerating in the exact same way. I don’t believe it is actually a lifter issue, but more something triggered by sensors and the stabilitrac engaging. I know I’m stuck with a vehicle that will repeat this problem over and over again. I have yet to contact GM, but plan on doing so tomorrow, also when I’m due to get my car back. I’m not holding my breath though. I’ve read about so many issues with these 5.3 engines, it’s unbelievable that there hasn’t been a recall.
Chris, I am in as well. I have a 2014 Sierra with 65'K miles. This happened last night. Called GM and they sent a wrecker to come pick it up just now under the power train warranty. Flashing check engine light, stabil track light steady on, ticking from motor, and rough idle and shifting 1-2. Curtis.house@hotmail.com
I have 2012 Silverado Z71. Same as everybody stabilatrac and trac light. I found out if u run anything but 93 octane in it it fowls the plugs witch for some reason causes this loss of power because of the trac/stabili light. I diconnected battery for a few mins hooked it back up went straight to the gas station and put 93 octane in it. Running fine for now. Forgot to say only put 87 octane in it cause happened to be the station i stopped at didnt have 93 so i had no choice but to put some 87 in it. I know the plugs are all shoot as well after running $20 of 87 thru it. Add me to the lawsuit please!
2008 Chevy Suburban, same issue. Replaced brake switch sensor no fix. Seeing it could be catalytic converter, plugs, malfunctioned wire, fuel injector, collapsed lifter. Count me in Chris. Creel.nicole@yahoo.com
Same issues as many on 2009 Silverado 5.3L, P0300, misfire on cylinder 7, rough idle, hard shift 1-2, and the constant service stabilitrak and traction control with both turning on/off. I'm in. jaydencse@gmail.com
I am having the same problem with 2012 Impala. Service Stabilitrak, Check engine light, runs like crap and code says cylinder 2 misfire. Afraid to go spending $ on something that seems like it may not have a fix at all. On another site someone posted about these being "phantom" problems with the acutal problem being computer/electrical.
It most likely has a simple fix, I learned that the flashing check engine light probably means its missfiring, obviously yours is missfiring on cylinder 2. I went thru everything on mine because the message " Service traction control and Service stabilitrac" came on, it had absolutely nothing to do with those systems, it was a stopped up Catalytic converter. See my earlier post. I have 2 friends at work that had a similar problem but theirs had a bad sensor and didnt cost much at all , one was less than $200 to fix but they could not remember the name of the sensors. Its most likely not a phantom problem but anything from a bad plug. coil, coil wire, catalytic converter, fuel injector, vacuum leak etc.. Since its missfiring its most likely engine related and has nothing what ever to do with traction control. One clue on mine that I had missed was that in the early stages of my problem was this, it was only doing this when I was climbing a hill and the engine was under a heavy load. this caused the exhaust back pressure from the stopped up Cat to cause engine missfiring. When this happened I ran a can of Seafoam thru the tank which just made the problem worse. After the Seafoam cleaned out all the carbon it finished off what little was left of my cat by dumping all the that carbon down the exhaust and stopping up the Cat even more. After that I could not even back out of the driveway before it started flashing the Service Stabilitrak etc... Does yours idle ok if you crank it and never rev the engine?
08 Avalanche w/ 80000 w/ stabilitrack and check engine light. Mechanic's new $8000 determined that misfire on cyl 2 was only happening < 1200 rpms. he said i'd have to go to the dealer (i've known him for 40 years, worked with him swapping motors at night in the 90s and i was even at his wedding). wasn't plug, wire or injector. i DO have an extended warranty so this should be fun. (sarcastic). add me to the lawsuit .. rawbobb@gmail.com I can't get a PA inspection in August with the check engine light on :( .

Same deal with mine, replaced all lifters 40,000 miles ago and now stabilitrack if off and running rough with the ticking. Add me to the lawsuit as well, laban@highseasproperties.com
Two days ago I pulled out of my driveway. By the time I hit the corner 1/4 mile away my check engine light was flashing and the Stabilitrak light was on. Truck ran really rough, was obviously not running on all cylinders and was not shifting right. Took it home, let it sit, started it up and could hear the dreaded noise of a faulty lifter. Towed to GMC dealer today - sure thing. #7 cylinder lost compression due to a faulty lifter. Everything is being replaced under my powertrain warranty but I fear this is going to be an ongoing issue. 2015 GMC Sierra 6.2L motor with 78,500 miles

Here’s the technical service bulletin. They know damn well it’s a problem...
So i got an email saying that Greg Henderson posted a TSB for this problem. I can't find that link for the life of me anywhere. did anyone else see it? it's not here in this thread. I'm going to the dealer monday morning and could probably use it. thanks in advance. if someone has the link to the pdf, please email me at rawbobb@gmail.com. thank you.
It's actually right above your comment.
So...from the beginning. My 2012 Impala had the traction control issue and we had to rewire that. Then the “service Stabilitrak” light and check engine light came on and the car had rough idle. Computer said Cylinder 2 misfire. We checked the spark plugs. Cleaned all the connections. Used seafood. Etc. Took it to shop and they cannot figure out exactly what is wrong, but something bad...they said they cannot take the heads off and doubt the the dealer can either and we are pretty much screwed. The car needs a new motor. It is 6 years old!!!! It is the first car Inhave ever bought brand new and is is worse shape than all the older cars we have. Whatever is causing this to happen should have been recalled, but I don’t think anyone actually knows the cause...
2015 5.3 Silverado same issue flashing engine light stability light on. 64000 miles bought used last sat not 400 mile later started doing all this. Dropped back off at dealer yesterday. My codessid cylinder 7 misfire did all tricks to see any change but no. So add me Chris to lawsuit. Kellycjarrett@gmail.com
Wow, just wow....This many people? I wonder if this is news worthy in order to get GM’s attention? This is unbelievable. I also wonder when I get my truck back on Monday if they are putting the same garbage lifters back in it, or if they have actually engineered a modified part that resolves the issue??? One thing I know is that AFM is getting turned off in my truck when I get it. Talked to several mechanics and motorheads who said this is the FIRST thing they would do.

Just happened to me. Engine light on, stabititrack flasking and very rough idle. 2013 Suburban 5.3L with 123,000 miles. Code was 55,000 misfires on cylinder 7. Also it is burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. Dealer told me that it needs either a $5,000 engine rebuild or a $7,500 reman engine. I complained that it was burning excess oil for over a year now to the dealer. They knew it was a ticking time bomb. No more GM's for me.
Jason - though the work I had done on my 2015 6.2L Sierra was under warranty I had them put together an estimate to replace all the lifters on the #7 cylinder side which is what they did and it was $3k even so I’d question that $5k figure - this was at a GMC dealer in Minnesota

Same problem here on 08 Tahoe. Currently in shop. Has anyone had these problems stopped by turning off AFM? That’s my next step. Curious to see others answers.
I’m turning my AFM off with a Diablo i3 Platinum tuner - just waiting for the device to arrive from Amazon. Then I’ll create a log and send it in to have a custom tune created and loaded into my truck.

Going on second engine rebuild for my 2008 ch by Silverado.... being told it was running lean therefore burnt up the f****** engine. I am toning on two years owning His 1500 lt bought it with 100,000went on fishing trip came back with ticking noise and slight knock we were told we had metal shavings in the oil... rebuilt 5,300 later. And 17,000 miles later I’m rebuilding it again... we had it in to the shop three times and they s not us away yet I knew something was not right and I’m not even a mechanic I just pay close attention to my vehicle. Not happy at the idea of a rogue problem but sounds like lots of us have a serious problem that GM NEEDS!!! To address Running peoples lives into the ground is a way to build a horrible rep. Have grown up Chevy but am more or less scared away and will be heavily researching other options at my next buy if we are not bankrupt from a engine rebuild every 15-20,000 miles

I have 2012 Silverado the service stabiletrac and traction control message and abs light came on today.
2009 5.3 Silverado. 102k miles on her. Same issue. Ad me to the lawsuit Prandallm@yahoo.com
My 2007 Tahoe has experienced just about every single issue listed above over the last 2 years. Here’s a list of the issues I’ve experienced and then I’ll list everything I’ve done to attemp to fix it: Service Stabilitrak, Service Traction Control, Cylinders 1, 7, 6, 8 misfires with 7 being almost weekly for 2 years. Check engine light comes on when a cylinder misfires accompanied with Service Stabilitrak and Traction Control. Tahoe idles rough, shifts really hard from 1st to second gear. Catalytic converters inefficiency. What I’ve done to attempt to fix this issue for 2 years: Changes plugs and wires, changed valve cover, kept changing cylinder 7 spark plug every 3 months(this worked until recently the issue happens daily), changed brake switch(didn’t help anything). I cleaned the Throttle body ad this seemed to help the length of time between codes thrown. But still experiencing same issues. GuruWK39C Your posts sound spot in with what I’m experiencing. I did just(1 year ago)have the drivers side Catalytic Converter replaced with an aftermarket Cat and have still had same issues. I’m wondering if the aftermarket catalytic converter allows a smaller amount of airflow and causing the Cylinder 7 misfire. I’m about ready to make a YouTube video of “How to fix a Chevy” and video me rolling it off a cliff. I’m hesitant to buy my Duramax now.

We have an 08 Silverado 5.3 doing the same thing with the stabilitrak off and check engine light flashing. Sign me up Chris.
Preston, I replaced my Cats with Magnaflow after market units and welded them in myself. They are both working fine and I havent had any new codes since replacing them. When I removed the old ones it was clear that the driverside was clogged up with something, I said carbon in my earlier post but not really sure what it was. One thing I highly suspect is that using the Seafoam finished off an already partially bad Cat. (I'm not knocking Seafoam but it seemed to finish off the bad Cat because prior to that it would only screw up when under a heavy load.) It does sound like you have the same problem. With mine cylinder 7 which is the last one on the driver side was always showing the most missfires, I think that was due to the pressure backing up from the other 3 driverside cylinders making 7 the most susceptible to the clogged Cat.

Just had #7 lifter replaced...$2000 repair... after 200 miles, stabilitrak light is back with same symptoms but now it’s cylinder #6. What would make the lifters on both sides of the engine fail?
“What would make the lifters on both sides of the engine fail?" A shitty Active Fuel Management design by GM
WELL ADD US TO THE LAWSIUT TOO. WE HAVE A 2007 WITH LESS THAN 80,000 MILES. WE WERE GOING DOWN I-20 FIXING TO GET OFF AT OUR EXIT ANDTHE TRACTION LIGHT COMES ON. WE STOPPED AT THE STOP SIGN TO TURN RIGHT AND AND IT WAS ROUGH SHIFTING. SO WE KEPT RESETTING IT TO GET TO THE HOUSE AND SO THE NEXT MORNING WE STARTED IT AND IT WAS RUNNING REALLY ROUGH AND WE TOOK THE BATTERY CABLE OFF AND HADNT STARTED YET.

The truck started missing and running terrible on the interstate, came home ran the code and got P0307, misfire on cylinder 7, changed all plugs and wires and now it is throwing the dreded random misfire, P0300. It's a 2012 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE. We just went through something similar like this with my 05 Grand Am but changing all the spark plugs and wires fixed it. We are pissed off because we haven't even had this truck for three months yet and we have already replaced the oil pressure sensor and all the ball joints are bad. We have re greased them for now but now this.... top it all off we bought it from a dealership
2012 Yukon Denali 125k. Had all lifters changed & Updated active fuel management. Wife just called Traction control , stability on again. amadajoe@aol.com
2014 GMC Sierra SLT 6.2L all the same issues, please add me to the lawsuit, Merrill_nicholas@yahoo.com
Is anyone even coordinating a lawsuit? I reached out to the email address in the thread and have yet to get a response. That was several weeks ago.
Same problem--2008 Silverado 5.3 L, 170,000+ miles. Dealer suggested $5K lifter job or $7K new engine. I didn't believe them (still don't). Independent mechanic saw a 5V voltage drop in the system while the engine was exhibiting the symptoms. He systematically unplugged sensors until he unplugged the oil pressure sensor and the voltage jumped back up to normal. He figured he had found the problem and replaced that sensor. The truck ran great for 3 weeks until it started doing it again. I don't believe anyone has fixed this problem. Those who think they have the answer just haven't given it enough time to happen again.
I have the same issues on my 2008 chevy silverado with stability track n reduced power
Chris, Add me to the lawsuit as well. I have a 2016 Chevrolet Trax. Stabilitrak light comes on while accelerating as well the check engine light as well as skipping. Stabilitrak light goes off and the check engine light stays unless I reset it. I had it diagnosed at Auto Zone. Fuel injector with misfire in cylinder 4. Replaced the fuel injector. No change. Reset engine light, same error as before. I ordered a spark plugs and that'll I'll pick up and put in tomorrow. I also bought Sea Foam. No change. I have warranty for a few more months but it's power train. If I take it to the dealer and it doesn't fall under power train I am responsible for $130+ in diagnostic fees. They should do recalls on this issue, but from the sound of it, even mechanics don't know what in the world is going on with our vehicles. Leah shiver plshiver@live.com

same problems here I have 2011 5.3 Silverado and I've had pretty much all that has been listed changed. it seems to fix the problem for about 20k miles and then I'm in the same spot. my #7 cylinder has been a problem since about 17k miles and I'm at 105k now and it's been in the shop at least 5 times for same problems and I'm here again
Anyone else get a letter from Chevrolet recently? I got a notice in the mail today suggesting that some GM models may have an "inoperative purge solenoid." Could this be causing the issues stated on this thread?
I had the same issue with stabilitrak light coming on and off and check engine light on my 07 yukon denali 6.2 . i changed the spark plugs and put a k&n air intake in. the lights on the dash went off for about 24hr then the stabilitrak light came back on so I filled up the break fluid to max and the stabilitrak light has not came back on and my break fluid was NOT low I just had to put more in

2008 LTZ changes plugs and wires, no difference. Did notice that bank 1 coils are not working. Called mechanic, he said he has repaired one that had a broken wire in the harness. One thing I noticed while working on this was that the plastic wire loom is degrading and falling off. I have never seen this happen. I am thinking there is a quite a bit of heat under the plastic "Vortec" cover on top of the engine that is degrading the wire loom plastic and God knows what else. Once this truck is gone it will be the last Chevy for me. 2016 and 2017 Ford F250's sitting in the drive now.

Wow. There are so many GMC/Chevy owners having this issue... Add me to the list. I have a 2009 Chevy Silverado 1500 Crew Cab with 153K - The Traction Control/Stabilitrak light comes on - the truck has a rough idle and loud ticking from the engine - When the Stabilitrak shuts down it also stops the ABS braking system. My truck is currently at the Dealership being diagnosed. Just like all of you on this site, I don't have 4K+ to put into a rebuilt engine. My truck has been a sore subject with me since buying it new in 2009. She also burns 1 qt oil every 1000 miles. ( the dealership said that it was well within their specifications) I've already dropped 2 lifters but my truck was under warranty at the time. After reading all of these posts - I will not purchase a Chevy or GMC - - it's not just a few bad years.... it's over a decade of pushing out POS trucks.... I have a 2007 Chevy Tahoe and I just recently experienced the same frustrating issues you guys have been experiencing. My 4WD selector would be on Auto but a green light is flashing on 4WD. Along with engine light flashing, Service Stabilitrac and Traction Control. Rough ragedy idle and trucks shifts hard with a knock into 2nd gear. Had it looked at by Auto Zone and a All Tone location. Multiple miss fires in cylinder 1. I changed spark plug, wire even went back out and bought a core park for cylinder 1. Just to get the same results. Auto Zone came up with the truck needs a valve spring. This truck was our only vehicle due to our piece of crap 2016 Chevy Cruz being down from a broken Intake Manifold. That GM refused to assist with getting the vehicle repaired because of the miles that were put in it. I need a real solution without spending money that I don't have.

Please add me 2012 Chevy Suburban! Stabiltrac ,traction control and now engine light flashing, rough ride isn't the proper term, my vehicle is shaking harder than a stripper on a pole! Please add me to the lawsuit! Any assistance needed I'm onboard. tashibap419@gmail.com
I have a 2007 Suburban that has been throwing a "system too lean" code. The first time I took it in they told me it was probably because I was using flex fuel, and said to go back to reg unleaded. I did and the rough idle and MPG went back up BUT now I'm back to have the check engine light on all the time and my "stabilitrak off" light will come on. Funny thing is that it comes on as I slow down at almost the exact same place on my way to town!!! Usually the stabilitrak light goes off before I come to the stop light, if it doesn't I have had it shift hard a couple of times as I accelerate. Before all this I was getting 17MPG IN TOWN shuttling kids around, but now I'm getting 13.9MPG. I have read several of these forums like this and LOTS of people mention cylinder 7,2, and 5. I'm nervous to take it back to our mechanic and have what some of you all have had happen. I came from a Chevy family but always drove "other" cars. With a growing family of Amazonian children I decided to bite the bullet on this decked out Sub...payment and all. I haven't even had it a year and this will be the second trip to the shop in 8 months. I'm gonna see what they say, but I may be next in line to join this suit!! (PS-what the hell is up with all the cracked dashes??????)
I found this on yet another forum!! About a quarter of the way down the guy posts this bulletin from 2010 that the dealerships should have been aware of. (also note that several of these people started having issues AFTER a tire rotation!! I constantly have a tire sensor or any of the tires going off.) Any one else having issues with tire sensors in conjunction or have issues after a tire change??? See bulletin below I have began experiencing this very issue. Check engine light engages sporadically, lean codes, and stabilitrak engages/disengages sporadically. There is a bulletin that most dealerships should be aware of which looks like our issue. I just want to know what type of cost am I looking at, should be fixed free of charge considering there is nothing any of us are doing outside of driving when this occurs. Here is the bulletin: #07-06-04-013A: L76 4L70-E Chuggle, Surge, Hesitation May Be Felt with Active Fuel Management System Cylinder Deactivation Transition from V8 Mode to V4 Mode or Harsh 1-2 Upshift (Reprogram ECM and TCM) - (Nov 26, 2007) Read more: http://www.justanswer.com/questions/28wco-i-have-a-2007-chevrolet- avalanche-5-3-- flex-fuel-during-a#ixzz0bahF2U7I Subject: L76 4L70-E Chuggle, Surge, Hesitation May be Felt with Active Fuel Management System Cylinder Deactivation Transition from V8 Mode to V4 Mode or a Harsh 1-2 Upshift (Reprogram ECM and TCM) Models: 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe 2007 GMC Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL with Active Fuel Management System Vortec® GEN IV 6.0L V8 Engine (VIN Y -- RPO L76) and HYDRA-MATIC® 4L70-E Transmission (RPO M70) This bulletin is being revised to remove the 4L60-E transmission and add condition information. Anybody experiencing any issues with a bad valve spring? Along with multiple misfires from cylinder 1. 2007 Chevy Tahoe
Yep 08 Suburban 5.3 had these issue come and go but no seems permanent with all the listed issue, rough idle, running on less than 8 cylinders, traction control lights flashing, hard gear changes, what a piece of junk 179K miles. Last Chevy I will ever purchase.
My 2010 silverado had what seemed like a traction control misfire, i was driving on gravel but it didn't seem like it was necessary for the truck to slam on its own brakes, threw my coffee all over the place. engine light came on, gas petal didn't work so I stopped, tried to restart my truck and now it won't start? Mechanic at my work seems to think my fuel pump went, but strange about the traction control issue right before??

Hi! I'm Ben and I just joined your club! Last week, I bought a "certified" 2014 Silverado, 5.3L, 46K miles. Managed to drive it for almost 2 days before I got the flashing check engine light and the Stabilitrac light. The motor instantly went from nice and smooth to violently shaking like it needed an exorcist. It's been sitting at the dealer for 3 days and has probably been looked at by multiple mechanics, paranormal investigators, theoretical physicists (I do live by NASA) and priests. Worst of all, I traded in my super-reliable Tacoma and, as far as I can tell, I am now the owner of a "certified" POS. How are we doing on that attorney? ifly71@yahoo.com
Took mine to the certified dealership and the said I had a cracked valve spring on cylinder 5, they replaced it and(knock on wood) I haven’t had any problems, luckily mine was still covered under warranty, hopefully this is helpful for some ppl still looking for an answer
Add me to the lawsuit! 2015 Silverado 5.3l. Started with a bad lifter, then another one went on the opposite side of the engine. Motor was replaced due to damage of the lifters. A little bit after the new engine was installed I was having the flashing engine light, dash flickers, hood open chimes, etc. Second motor blew not 2,000 miles after. Cylinder number 1 was the culprit. On to engine number three, it just started throwing a stabilitrak code and was hesitating when dropping into V4 mode. This is the best part.... The truck has 21,000 miles!! NOT HAPPY!

Well I actually got my truck fixed and it was fairly reasonable. I had the stabiltrac light and engine lights flashing. Truck was running terrible and barely pulled itself home. Got up next day changed the plugs and wires. Plugs were horrible! But that wasn't the problem. For some reason I had lost the coils on bank 1? Left side of motor no fire to any of the plugs. I scanned the harness but could not find anything wrong. Decided to take to my local guy. Week later truck was ready??? They replaced the entire fuse block under the hood. Some issue with it, I don't know how it was diagnosed, but trucks runs great! Anyone want to buy a 2008 Silverado?? LOL
This just happened to both vehicles the same day 2 weeks ago. My 2013 Silverado 78K and my wife's 2014 Traverse 76k and have to wait a month for a service appointment at the local dealer. Has not happened to my wife's since but since yesterday my silverado is no longer intermittent. It is horrible. Please add me to the CALS as well clifford.strang@gmail.com
Wow! 2011 Suburban.. It just happened. Blinking engine light, stability track message, rough idling. Include me in the damn lawsuit IF its still happening. Doesn't seem like its going anywhere. southcakalak@yahoo.com
Have you ever heard anymore about the claim or Lawsuit? I'm having the same exact problem with my 08 Silverado 5.3
I have a 07 Siverado and the stabilitrac and traction control lights would come on and then it would run rough and shift hard from 1 to 2 . I did everything plugs, wires, coils didnt help. Once in a while I would start it and it would run fine no lights and no miss fire then right back to the same thing. Took it to the local dealership and they said it was a bad cylinder but that didnt explain why it would choose to not miss and run fine for a time then start having issues again. Of course when they had it it just ran bad. What I found on mine was the cam position sensor was bad and that's what made it miss and throw the lights and shift hard. Since it was fixed that cleared up my problem.
Same thing just happened to me.. new motor on the way!! Add me to the lawsuit K.terribile@comcast.net
Kris Same thing checks engine light fleshing and traction control light on all the time.I drop my 2015 Silverado 1500 LT (20900 miles ) et the Castle Chevrolet today and waiting for diagnostic in next couple off days. .
Same problem as everyone else with Stabilitrac lights and engine running roughly. I've replaced the Cat and plugs and wires, all of this and some other issues totaling about $8k in 4 separate occassions. Each time, the mechanic fixes the Stabilitrac issue, but it keeps coming back over the last 5 months. I have a '07 Suburban LTZ with about 150k miles. Add me to the lawsuit, djh9999@hotmail.com.
If I can live with the lights and hard shifting, how long do you think I can go on driving it like that? I want my 16 son to drive, and NOT spend a bunch of money.
Update for my problem, repair covered by power train warranty. BAD LIFTER!!

It's very frustrating to see that everybody on here pretty much has the same issues with their GMC vehicle. Even more frustrating to see that there's not a for sure simple solution.
I 've had the same problem, 2007 chevy Silverado z71. Chevrolet dealer rebuilt top motor 14 months ago. Then 2 weeks ago same thing happened again but now they want to put in a 6,000 motor. Asked them why they didn't do it the first time. Of course no one knows why or could help me with it. Then I learned on a carfax that the motor was overhauled in 2011. Now it's setting in my yard. What to do.
tdhall0311 answered 6 years ago
I've talked to a few mechanics about our common issues and their suggestion was possible bad fuel injectors. I haven't had the time to check, but maybe this could help someone.
Pissed2011 answered 6 years ago
2011 Tahoe. Just over 100k . No warning at all. Exact same problem. Cylinder 7 misfire. I’ve had this truck for almost 6 years never a problem. Doesn’t drink a drop of oil. Dealer has had it for 4 days and tell me they can’t figure it out.
I did a complete engine flush using Liquid Mollie and added MOA additive to the high mileage Pennzoil. Problem fixed for a couple days then reverted to rough running and engine light back on, stabiltrack system etc. Has been on and off like this since but for the most part running on all 8 cyclinders. Might try purchasing an AFM blocker to keep it in V8 mode permanently. Costs $200 but worth a try before ripping open the engine. I think a lot of the issues are happening when the AFM system is changing from V8 mode to 4 cylinder mode with the deactivation and oil pressure, movements effecting the lifters. Not an expert but worth a try. https://www.amazon.com/Range-Technology-Active-Management- Disable/dp/B00BR1R8N8
Same problem with my 07 Chevrolet avalanche. Changed all my spark plugs and wires, oil and transmission fluid flushed new battery tried everything people have posted and still have the same problem. Add me to the lawsuit adletajustin@gmail.com.
And I am the next victim... Happened on my way to work today, same as all above, not diagnosed yet but flashing check engine, hard shifting, loss of power, stabilitrac etc. 2013 1500 with 210,000 mi. First real issue to date minus tires, brakes and lower ball joints. I guess I am lucky with minimal repairs to date but this looks like the end of the road for me in this chevy. JUST got the title in the mail 2 weeks ago, should have seen this coming! Time for a Ford?
Same problem here. 09 Silverado 4.8 v8 98k miles Traction control and stabilitrac are disabled. Check engine light is flashing. Trans shifts Hard into 2nd. Rough idle and backfires occasionally. Already had the lifters fail before and that was repaired under the drivetrain warranty. I'm going to replace the plugs and wires. Then start testing the coil packs and fuel injectors. I wonder if the recall on the throttle body position sensor is causing these other parts to fail?? Krisdye007@aol.com
for all the people having the misfire problem... do not just throw parts at the car hoping to fix the problem, you need to first diagnose what the problem is, 1 - check codes and do an engine compression check before everything. 2 - if compression is good usually that mean the engine is good mechaniclly so your problem is either spark, fuel or air. if compression is low then its a big problem (usually lifters or rings and would not be something that the avg person can fix), also while you are at it check the condition of the spark plugs to see if they are worn 3- if compression is good and spark plugs look good buy a cheap spark tester from amazon or any parts store for around $8 and check if all the coils are providing spark.and replace the one that is failing. on a huge percentage of misfire, the above procedure would help you find what the problem is, there is a few other possibilities and test but the above ones are the easiest, can be done by almost anyone, and would solve over 90% of misfire problems
Just installed the Range Technology AFM disabler that I purchased from Amazon. Wasn't cheap $189. Engine light that would not go away on the display turned of immediately and the performance improvement is noticeable and it is running much smoother. Wow what an improvement. I reckon seeing the ongoing problems that everyone is seeing here including myself the AFM design is flawed and needs to be disabled and is causing most of the issues including lifter issues. Will updated this after some driving time but so far this device is MAGIC.

GM18, that’s exactly what we thought the problem was with my 08 Tahoe. Put $700 into her before I traded her in for a Dodge. The problem still wasn’t fixed when I traded it in. Please update in a few weeks if that has still fixed the problem. Our mechanics were dumbfounded!
2010 5.3l sierra 120k miles. Had this stabiltrak rough idle thing happen but the check engine light was not flashing. Codes came up as throttle body sensor and i was also having low voltage issue. Changed the throttle body sensor and battery cables (they were kind of corroded) and cleaned/tightened all grounds. Problem solved for several months....happened again out of the blue while idling in drive, large misfire stumbled the engine and the stabilitrak lights and flashing check engine came on. Code was cylinder 7 misfire, changed all plugs and wires, they were fairly worn and hadnt been changed in a long time. So far ao good and the truck runs great with perfect idle and no misfires. It's a waste of time contacting GM about this issue. Their response was there is no recall on these conditions. They can't base their decision off a third party website forum. That this is a common issue with their vehicles.

Same issue with my 2009 Chevy Tahoe with 140k miles! My husband is a mechanic and has diagnosed and fixed every issue thus far. We have changes plugs and wires, seafoam treatment ect... The stabilatrak, traction control goes crazy and the ABS sensor turn off when the lights turn on. When this happens it usually doent affect the driveability but there were previous times when the entire vehicle lost power, oil preasure and stearing so I would have to slam on the breaks and try to get off of the road or to the side of the road and put it in park, then turn the ignition off and then restart the vehicle. It would usually be fine upon restart. I also have a warning light for servicing the seat belts and tire pressure sensors (which I choose not to replace) as well as my dash is cracked in 3 places and my clear coat is bubbling up and peeling off of the rear access plastic panels. The only thing that we have found was loose battery cables so he made new ones and then the brake fluid gets low and causes the sensors to go off but it is not leaking the brake fluid and everything else checks out ok. I will have my husband connect his scanner again so i can write down the codes. I would like in on the law suit if it is perused. goldie1188@gmail.com

ok everyone listen up!!! had all the same identical problems with my 2015 Silverado LTZ especially when I would go up steep hills, and I fixed the problem for under $4.00 with a bottle of fuel system and injector cleaner. no joke!!! after a 1/2 tank of treaded gas the problem is totally gone, and that's after time and time again punching it up steep hills. I canceled my appointment with my mechanic
I have a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. After a $4000 bill, the problem is now back. A few weeks ago, mine had the spark plug wires replaced. Now, the problem is back. The stabilitrac light went on followed by the engine light and then a loss of power. Pulled over and restarted it, but clearly it still has a problem.
Just left a local shop (not a dealership), they replaced the plugs, plug wires, and #2 coil. It was idling rough, check engine light was flashing and the stability control light was on. 2014 Silverado 6.2L V8 with 110,000 miles so it was due for a tune up.
All the same problems with my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Add me to the lawsuite.

So after the third time now got some other folks to look over my problem. Turns out the roller lifter style is cutting into my cam shaft so shards of metal are sticking the lifters. Getting a new engine as my solution I'm afraid. Just a matter of time if you replace lifters for it happen again.

I have had the vlom, lifters on both sides replaced, plugs, coil packs, and pretty much every scan and test they can run. its been at GM shop for over three months - last week they had a GM engineering team in to start a ticket on it. we are still waiting on there results. please add me rdcallander12@gmail.com

2018 GMC Sierra, 28K miles. Acted up about a month ago for a minute. Last night started running rough, check engine light flashing, stabilitrac light on and cruise control stopped working. 2017 Chevy Silverado 1500 About five / six days ago, stabilitrak service msg popped up while heading down the driveway. The ABS and traction lights both lit up as well. Called OnStar and dealership. Hey yall, an update on my 07 5.3 avalanche . I was having the same issues, took it to the mechanic, misfire cylinder 1 and 7, took it to autozone coil 1.It would go on and off until recently it was on everytime I turned the truck on (annoying)all the symptoms. Unscrewed spark plug on cylinder 1 and turned the truck on, it had no spark. Changed the plug on cylinder one (with a used one at that) and now the truck is running perfectly fine, it's been about 2 weeks already going on 3. Do the checking yourselves people, sometimes it's simple and mechanics will charge you all a ton of money based on what the computer tells them. Mess with your cars a little and try ruling out stuff before they tell you it's time for a new engine or an expensive fix. Maybe some people have a more serious problem that triggers all the above symptoms but thankfully for me it was a damn plug. I was in denial because I had just changed the plugs about a year ago max and I use nothing but shell gas. This is a true story, I am just glad I was able to fix the problem after months of going crazy. It was that simple for me... hope this helps somebody on this thread. Good luck to all of you.

Dido Dido on all of above, I have a 2008 Silverado 160K mi, shop says that it needs new lifters because the Active Fuel Management system, backfiring into the cylinders, cost is around 3K, now the Stabilitrack and Traction control mess is happening. I am actually wanting to sell the truck so I can get a newer one, I have driven Chevy's all my life, guess it is time to move to a Ford (yuk). So I have emailed all of the emails I found on this site, a lot of people have ask if a lawsuit is in the works but it appears either no one knows or it has not been started. Which is really hard to believe, Chevy and GMC have a reel problem, can't imagine a class action suit could not be started pretty easily. All anyone would have to do is contact one of those law firms you see on TV or find a large firm in your home town, I also can't imagine anyone starting it would have to spend any money, the sharks would get paid off the suit. SO? Has a suit been started, if not I will start one, if anyone knows anything please let me know. Jud - jcoester@kc.rr.com Thanks
@DiveDavid when ya replaced the plugs did that correct the service traction control issue??
Update on my 2008 gmc sierra 5.3l v8 stabilitrak and traction control came on along with blinking check engine light code p0303 and running lean, replaced spark plugs and stabilitrak and traction control alo g with check engine light went away been driving now for about 3 weeks and they havent come back but i have a really rough idle when on drive or rear.
Cylinder 7 misfire due to oil fouling out the plug. You're getting oil into the cylider, same as me. 2011 Silverado 5.3 started with me around 70k miles. Dealership did squat to make it right.
Hello cody, so there is nothing we can do to fix this? And is it going to get worse?
Once my truck came out of warranty, the dealership wanted to change rings and pistons. 2500 out of pocket. It's probably gonna get worse. Last Chevy I buy.
AshleyGuerrero answered 6 years ago
The only fix for this specific problem is to delete the AFM. It’s a flaw in the engine that GMC refuses to recognize. You will only figure this out by putting hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars trying to fix it. So just order the AFM delete kit & have someone install it. This will save you $$$ in the long run. You’re welcome everyone! BTW I learned this the hard way $$$
@Ashleyguerrero Is this guaranteed to fix the problem? How long has it been since you installed the AFM delete kit? And have you had any problems since then?
You are 100% correct. I had all the same issues 2008 Suburban and was told the engine was destroyed by local auto shop, spent $90 for them to tell me that. I thought it needed new lifters etc, did the oil changes, added liquid molly flush etc etc and lost a few nights sleep. Then spend $200 on AFM disabler after reading another post on here. I was hesitant spending that coin but looking at thousands otherwise. Been several months since I plugged it in and I have never had an engine issue since. Engine light turned of immediatly and it runs like a new V8. It has a 30 day money back guarantee so can return if it does not sort out the problem. I recommend it highly, it may not fix everyones problem but it may fix a lot of problems. The issue is the AFM deactivating and the engine computer system. It is obviously a design fault and this is an easy fix to stop it deactivating. My truck has never run better, more powerful, smoother, sounds like a V8 and no more issues listed on this blog. https://rangetechnology.com/afm-disabler/
@Pedro. Nothing is guaranteed to fix a problem unless you try it. It has a 30 day money back guarantee. I bought mine through the company but you can also get through Amazon which has return policies. Worth a shot. Worked on my truck as soon as I used it and still working strong 3 months on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND AS A FIRST MEASURE TO FIX ISSUES BEFORE GOING FULL $$$$$
@Ashleyguerrero can a person not just install the $200 AFM disabler chip as well?
You do not need someone to install the AFM device. Takes longer to get out of the box than install. Do it yourself. Simply plugs into the diagnostic cable which is below the steering wheel. Super easy. It will light up with faint colored LED light when operating each time you turn the vehicle on. Basically resets the engine management system and with my experience the engine runs better than what Chevy programmed. I would never go back to the problematic AFM cylinder deactivation Chev program. Yes they should have recalled this but they never will. It would not look good for them to keep the so called flexfuel saving engine in permanent V8 mode.

So @gm18 your truck was misfiring and rough idle and everything when you plugged this in? Mine was “diagnosed” with bad lifter on cylinder 1, been sitting for 3 months bcs i dont want to spend 2k to fix one lifter when im afraid another will mess up 2 weeks later. Just wondering if yours was check engine flashing and misfiring when you plugged this in and it just made it stop completely? Im willing to buy, just afraid if my problem isnt intermittent like some posters where the problem comes and goes randomly it wouldnt work

@shelbie. Had the misfiring, stabiltrak, engine light all flashing, making noises, engine tapping noises, loss of power all started 3 years ago would come and go over a few days but last time it was really bad, very loud tapping and lasted weeks. Thought it was terminal. Basically in snow conditions it will render the vehicle to dangerous to drive with no stabiltrak and 4wd. Yes the AFM disabler stopped all the issues and it runs better than when I bought it 5 years ago. Tempting to unplug and see what happens but not taking any chances. Worth a try as you can return for refund within 30 days. I’m no expert but I think most, not all the problems are theater to the engibe management system and the cycliinder deactivation. DESIGN FAULT.
2012 silverado with the same problems mentioned above. Traction control flashing stability control, cruise control was touchy now not working at all, running rough and slight rev in park every 20 sec's. Flashing engine light now. Changed the plugs (darn that one is hard to get off) and no change. Going to try disconnecting the battery overnight to see if it will reboot . I have no expectations that this will work. We bought 4 of these new and they all turned to junk.

2009 Silverado LT ~ 158,000 miles. Having the same trouble as everyone else.It will run perfect one time and then without warning barely idle the next. The mechanics are in parts changing mode, and there is no clear answer in sight. Other than idle this truck is running as it should. I have never had this much of a problem without a definite direction on repair. Chevy has lost a customer for good this time. Maybe its time for a Toyota. I don't think a lawsuit will help. Chevy would issue a service bulletin if they knew what was wrong. I don't think they know anything more than us DIY guys, but I am certainly on the complaint list - jchorn@reagan.com .
2009 Silverado, 109,000 miles. Just had to have all the lifters replaced, $3,056.00. Drove the truck under 100 miles and just had it towed back to the shop for the same problem. I have always used Mobil 1 oil.. This 5.3 motor is junk and GM knows it

Hey All - I wrote a short explanation of the problems that we are having with our 5.3 engines and sent to a couple attorneys here in Kansas City, I have a meeting with one of them on the 19th. The problems is that I am not going to pay for this, I told the attorney that he would get his $$$ from the class action suit but that would (could) take a long time so I doubt if he is going to do this for free. So how many of you are willing to fork over some $$$$, as many bad engines as there are and if we got everyone organized I won't think it would be that much money each - but then again I have no idea what I am taking about. Will let you know what the attorney says - Jud

I had the same problems with my 2011 5.3l V8 Silverado. Check engine light flashing and the Stabilatrak light and traction control warnings going off. It lost most of its power. I tried the fuel management disabler that was talked about earlier in this thread. I got it in the mail last night. I plugged it in and unhooked the battery for a couple minutes. Hooked the battery back up and started it. The warning lights all went away and ran pretty the way to work today. Ran great on the way home too. The only issue I am having now is that it is idling a little rougher than it used too and runs a little rougher in town in traffic. But not as rough as it was when the warning lights were on. I am not a car guy and have no idea what to do to get rid of the rough idling.
@gonechickin Same situation as you im thinking my motor mounts need to be replaced because the engine moves a lot when i put my truck on drive or reverse but i do t know how to fix the rough idle although the range disabler helped a lot

I finally found the answer. The truck I love and the brand I want now sits in a used car lot. Sorry Chevy, but after hundreds of dollars in parts and way too many hours on my 5.3 issues, I am now driving a Tundra. Average 21 mpg, plenty of get up and go, and best of all I don't panic that it will die at the stop light.
2015 suburban- I had my engine replaced back in February of this year due to a supposed valve lifter breaking inside my engine. Powertrain covered it all since I had 8,000 miles left on the warranty. NOW, I have taken my vehicle in due to a misfire on cylinder #2 according to the code reader and I have 100,300 miles on the vehicle and they said that the powertrain wouldn't cover the issue if it's a coil pack. The thing is, they don't know what it is because they can't get the check engine light to come on when they are testing it. Seems as if the misfire happens when there is a load on the engine such as a hill climb. Anyone think it could be something simple like the coil pack, wires, plugs, etc?, or is there an underlying problem to the whole 5.3 motor. Thanks
Also, I think I'm in on this whole class action suit as well.
Someone told me that it could have been triggered by hooking up my travel trailer to my suburban. ( The stability ask problem)

I unfortunately would like to get added to the list as well. 2007 Suburban with ALL symptoms mentioned above.... jacobs.andy82@gmail.com
@Andrew, yes there is an inherent design fault with the 5.3L V8 AFM engine that Chevrolet has never officially acknowledge or recalled. The only way to fix most of the listed issues is to use an AFM disabler so the engine never drops from V8 mode to 4 cylinder mode. This seems to be causing the engine management and other systems to fail for temporary periods of time, some longer and worse than others. Extra engine oil changes, flushes is probably a good thing as well. Absolutely amazing that so many people are having these problems and that is just post on this forum only. Most be thousands?
Had all the same symptoms like everyone else it ended up being my 2007 suburban fuel trim value was reading E85 fuel at around 90% Alcohol and needed to be reset at around 3% at the dealer with there scan tool.... now I have a 2012 and it’s doing the same damn thing
Gonechickin answered 6 years ago
@Pedro. Ok, I had used the AFM disabler for a few days, the lights and warnings had went off and it ran fine for a few days. Then it started idling rough and the warning lights came back on. I took out the disabler and unplugged the battery for a few minutes, then plugged back in the disabler and reconnected the battery and it was fine for a couple more days. Then had the rough idle again. I got an appointment with my trusted mechanic for yesterday. The truck sat for about a week as I was out of town for the holidays. So I jumped in and started it up. It was idling fine and no warning lights. I had to let it warm up for about 20 minutes as it was 24 degrees outside and was iced over. It is about 20 minutes to the repair shop. The truck drove great and ran better than it has in a long time. Got about 5 minutes away and my oil pressure light came on and the gauge showed zero pressure. I went on to the shop and parked it and shut it off. I started it back up and it had pressure again. I told my mechanic about everything that was going on. He said it is usually the plugs, coils, or lifters. He checked all the plugs they were fine. The wires and coils were fine. There was no error codes showing on the system. He took it out and drove it around. He took out the disabler and drove it around again. The oil pressure light came on again and he added 2 quarts of oil. He said he could not find anything wrong with it. He told me to drive it for a while and report back to him. I drove it all day today without the disabler in and it ran great.

Hey All, I have a question, on my 2008 Chevy Silverado 5.3 I was having problems with the AFM system, I had cylinders that were backfiring in the cylinder – had to have new lifters installed. My Stabil track and Traction control did not act up until my number 6- cylinder lifter froze up and that cylinder stopped firing, I had to top end rebuild and all problems went away. There is a lot of talk about the Stabil track and Traction control problems but (at least I have not seen) people are not saying that this problem and the AFM are related. They were absolutely related on my truck, so my question is – are the two problems related. Thanks Jud
https://www.amazon.com/s?field-keywords=AFM+Disabler+for+V6+and+V8+GM+vehicles Updated link to AFM disabler on Amazon. @Grant since you seem to be the only one responding with this as the solution with detail has it continued to work? I plan on picking one up ASAP. Just curious if you have had additional or similar issues since it's installation. BTW THANK YOU!!!!!!!! for your input. 1st and only solution I have read about in several years and MANY forums/posts read.
so I had had the traction control light come on and flashing engine light, run rough on idle and would down shift hard from 2nd to 1st, I changed all the plugs and that didn't make a difference, I then bought the AFM disabler and at first the traction control lights still came on but the engine light quit flashing, I made a long road trip the other day and it ran great with no alarms just the engine light is on but not flashing so hopefully this atleast allows me to drive the vehicle normal again

I have an update...Get an AFM Disabler as fast as you can if you have a 5.3L that was made from 07-12. I was too late on mine!! My cam has been rolled smooth on cylinder #4. From the sounds of it, this issue is most common around 130,000 miles. I have 190,000 on mine, so I guess I was lucky!! Instead of replacing the cam, I am putting in a new OE block, new injectors, new coil packs, new water pump, and using everything else off my current engine. My suburban is in fantastic shape...no rust, interior is near perfect (thank you leather and WeatherTech!!). My mechanic, who has "seen it all", has highly recommended getting rid of the Active Fuel Management. He said this wasn't one of GM's best ideas and has caused a lot of problems...which is evident just from this site's users!! Anyway, I hope some of you don't have to go the extent I am. Get that disabler as soon as you can!!!!!!!!!!
My problem is the same as everyone else. Please add me: jason@islandsightandsound.com
@S4N To answer your question I have not had one issue since plugging in the AFM probably 4 months ago now. In fact the engine has much more performance and sounds better from the moment of using the disabler. I will never remove the AFM disabler as I know what will happen if i do. I got the idea from a previous poster on this forum so thanks to them. There most be thousands of people wasting thousands of $$ on having their vehicles sent to workshops to repair something that is non repairable due to the design flaw of the 5.3L flex fuel engine.
My 2012 suburban is going to the dealer just to have the fuel trim reset and I will be buy one of these AFM for sure been reading up on them and they seam to work for a lot of people thanks guys y’all probably saved me thousands
Grant please keep us updated on the AFM disabler, i have a very nice 07 silverado i bought this year its used but very nice and i got the hard shifts first, they did a reset, they went away, came back, reset AGAIN, now im having the ticking noises and fear that they didnt fix the problem properly that somethings damaged, there is absolutely something wrong with the AFM, i have warranty so hopefully they can fix whats damaged and i will get the AFM disabler, I just went through this whole forum i wonder if the calibration would be just as good as the AFM disabler, thoughts? BTW lawsuit i would be in as well TRLAJEUNESSE@outlook.com
Gonechickin answered 6 years ago
After using the disabler for a few days, the truck runs great. I took it out to see what it would do and nothing happened. It has ran great for a week now without it. I also unhooked the battery when I first plugged in the disabler and now there is now errors in the system.
@Gonechicken So it does not reset when removed? I thought it would have to stay in to be disabled?
@sisu8888 I am pretty sure GM techs would have a very good idea of the 5.3l afm issue and will not discuss it. GM will never say buy an AFM disabler as this would admit the engine has design faults and then lawsuits. Lawsuits could take years and will not fix this problem now or anytime soon. The AFM is also banned for sale in Cali. Best option is to try one with 30 day return policy before spending $$$ at workshops that will not fix the faults.
@Gonechikin Did the rough idle go away after replacing the spark plugs and spark plug wires?
Gonechickin answered 6 years ago
I didn’t even replace them. I don’t know what happened, but it is running great now after using the disabler for a few days. When I unplugged the disabler everything ran like normal. No rough idle, no warning lights, nothing. I have the disabler in my consol just in case something happens. The AFM is back to working for the time being.
Gonechickin answered 6 years ago
But as Grant said earlier, this disabler does work. It could save thousands of dollars. It is worth a try before spending money on a mechanic.
The fuel trim value was correct they changed one spark plug and sent me on my way it’s running fine but I did order a AFM and it should be here Thursday .... thanks again everyone on this post
Grant question for you, did you have a misfire on any of your cylinders? Ive been doing some research on the disabler and if you have a failed lifter it can actually cause more harm than good, my mechanic said just a misfire code on cylinder 6 not a failed lifter used seafoam and changed to synthetic oil and the ticking noise went away. Would you go ahead and use the disabler in my circumstance?
@sisu8888. I don't believe I had a misfire on any cylinders. With the ticking, knocking noises I thought I had a stuck or damaged lifter but I think my problem relates to most others here with the AFM causing the engine management computer system to crap itself, flashing lights, hard shifts, running on reduced cylinders etc. I am no expert or mechanic and simply reviewed online info and learnt from my own experiences with my vehicles problems. I would use the AFM disabler on the 5.3l flex fuel model as it seems every engine will at some time have this issue that comes and goes away and returns more frequently for longer periods. The engine runs much better with the AFM in performance. I bought my vehicle with 90K on the clock and first problems started around 130K and i have 170K on the clock now. From other folk on this forum it seems the disabler is working for quiet a few others so that is good news, this may be a simple fix for a lot of the problems, but not all.
Add us to lawsuit. 2011 Silverado 1500 5.3 LTZ. Keefechuck5@gmail.com Sooo many problems, this is the final straw. Never again Chevy!!!!!

I had a similar experience this morning. My 2010 Silverado w/ 6.2 "went into limp mode" stabilitrak, low power, traction control, all flashing while only being able to maintain roughly 1k rpm. Very low power, drove the rest of the three miles to work, parked and disconnnected the battery, waited twenty minutes and started back up. Drove home 30+ miles and no issue yet. Going to take it to shop to get coded, will post updates. Hopefully nothing horrible!!!!

Well I just got my truck back from the dealer every thing covered by the warranty. They said it was a bad #7 piston carbined up. Didn't even look to find what accualy caused it
Shawn614columbus answered 6 years ago
I heard it was the accelerator pedal and wheel speed sensor. I have a rental now not sure for certain yet. GM should just pay to convert all our cars to electric and stop selling junk. 200 mile range please.
I've had all the above problems with a 2008 Silverado 5.3L engine now has 86,640 miles. Been to 2 dealers (P0303) first said needs new motor at 80,000 miles, second said needs heads and valves cleaned. Had new plugs, compression leak test show 30 drop on #3, cylinder soak, coil packs checks and fuel injectors checked. Today, 200 miles after the last dealer and last check engine light, I get the Stabilitrak light while setting still, idling at a long traffic light, but no check engine light. Made 4 more stops and starts, no more lights. I think the 5.3L engine is a lemon and I feel cheated by GM. This one is flex fuel, but no E85 stations within 30 miles so I burn mostly regular or premium. Odd to me that I can run 9 months with no light, then it's back again, just for awhile.

Is anyone having issues with their battery? 85% of the time I have to jump my truck for it to start after sitting overnight or for a long period of time. It seems to be worse in colder weather which makes sense. I have had the battery tested and it is almost 100%. It's been going on for some time now so I now carry around a small charger with me to give myself a jump while I'm on the road if needed. Just curious if anyone has come up with a fix?

I’m a retired GM master auto mechanic. I had the same problem on my 2010 Sierra lifter noise with engine miss. It went away after I changed the oil. I noted that if I changed the oil every 3 k miles the problem did not come back. First time this happened was at around 30k miles. Now have 110k miles on it. This is a known problem and it is a electronic lifter failure. There is now a fix for this that involves eliminating the bleed down lifters. GM should step up and acknowledge this concern. Now my 2015 Silverado with only 35k is doing the same thing. Misfire ans check engine light flashing with traction control light on. If there is now a class action lawsuit on this add me to it. I would think they should be held accountable since this vehicle won’t meet federal emissions when this happens or get the advertised fuel economy.

Add me to the lawsuit as well-2007 Silverado Z71 5.3L Crew Cab. The heater hose disconnected and had to replace it. After replacing it, now the Stabilitrack and the Traction control is saying it needs to be serviced. It also has a very rough shift into reverse, drive, and when shifting from 1-2 gear. My cruise control stopped working years ago have no idea why. My truck sorta has a flex fuel where it shifts from V8 to V4, well now it doesn't shift into V4 again. I replaced the oil pressure sensor and started working again but sounds horrible when it would shift back in forth. Also a while back I would lose engine power if I hit the gas to hard. Like if the engine was over heated and shut itself off. It would suck because it would take a cool minute for it to turn back on. Then would run like nothing happened. But it hasn't done it again after I replaced the oil pressure sensor. Shit there are times when my brake fluid or oil would be a tad bit low and my whole truck would go outta wack. I am also having problems with the cat converters. I need to replace both of them again because they only last 100,000 miles. I have over 200,000 miles on my truck. I just wish I was more mechanically inclined to fix it myself but I am not nor do I have the tools to do it. Being a Disabled Marine Corps Veteran, my monthly pay check isn't enough for me to be able to fix it back up to par like it should be. My name is Christie-Marie Camacho and my email is cecepuentes@gmail.com.
Same issues at the majority on here. Just started bad tonight. Very rough idle rougher than ever sitting the the light leaving work. 2007 Silverado Z71 4x4 138k. Went about .10 mile and the lights came on and the check engine light flashing. After a few miles it went off. Then another red light and same issue, the. Off again and so on two more times after a stop and idle for a few minutes. I love my truck and have had little issues but my confidence in GM went way down after all my research tonight! Add me to the list of unhappy and less than satisfied Chevy owners. Eynonusmc@gmail.com I also have a issue with the 4x4 that just started in September and the dashboard cracking. There is a TSB and even a recall hit when I called GM support they just held setting that my vin didn’t match the affected years so it couldn’t be the same issues.... mine is technically 2007 1/2 as it’s the first gen of that body style change over.
Christie-Marie answered 6 years ago
My dash has also cracked. Plus there is a recall on the air bags, but it hasn't gone completely into affect yet. I should have waited a year after the body style changed then maybe I wouldn't have had so many issues. IDK I bought it new off the lot in 07 with 34 miles on it and now has 200,000+ drove from Cali to NYC then back to Cali and it is still kicking. Just wish it didn't have these problems anymore and sound the way it used to. Did any of you get the Perma done to the inside and outside of the truck? That crap doesn't work. My seats cracked my door panels look old and the center console cracked badly!!
Just called Chevy and they said no recall as of yet, however if people keep calling about the issue then they will look into it. Worth trying to do. 8002221020 then hit option 0 for an operator. My 2007 just started doing it today. Everyone call and let’s get them to do a recall
2007 Chevy Avalanche: I suddenly experienced the same issue reported by many others here relative to the Stabilitrak/Traction Control problem/Loss of Power. After a lot of research I took a stab in the dark it may be related to the ill-conceived AFM (Automatic Fuel Management System). I purchased the AFM Disabler from Range Technology over a month ago and so far it has solved all the problems with the added bonus of having all 8 cylinders working all the time! Before spending thousands with the dealer I'd recommend this $200 fix first.
rjohnson3300 answered 5 years ago
So i have an update to the Stabilitrak/Traction Control/Loss Power issue. I bought a code reader and started driving my truck to see if it would shut down again. The very next morning on the way to work it did in fact shut down. The code that it came up with was P2135 (Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/ Switch a/b voltage correlation), i unplugged the battery and drove the truck back home just fine. Then after doing some research to see what part i needed i found out that back in 2013 there was a recall for the Throttle Position sensor. Called the dealership and they said that they would take care of it free of charge. Been driving the truck for a couple days now and so far no issue. Hope this helps somebody!!!
Blinky2008 update. After stabilitrack light came on sitting still, I ran a can of CRC GDI IVD valve cleaner through the MAF intake. I also found a few NON-ethanol gas pumps in Missouri, one was 16 miles away. After the treatment, I drove down and filled Blinky up with NON-ethanol premium gasoline from MFA. Since I don't drive much and non-ethanol gets better fuel economy, I've only used 3/4 of a tank. The truck has run great, no lights, and the missing at idle at lights seems to have dissipated. It's odd to me that in a farming town that raises miles of river bottom corn, that here is the NON-ethanol fuel. I believe the CRC product may be better than other 'panther pyss' I have added to the fuel tank. I'm not giving up on E-85, just can't find the stuff to buy. Class action lawsuits sound great, but I would be happy just to have GM fix their trucks. Until GM fixes this problem, I will be looking at Fords. More later.......
S4N answered about a week ago; Is anyone having issues with their battery? Have you cleaned the posts and cables with the round wire brush that can be bought at an Auto Parts store? How old is the battery? If the battery is over 6 yrs old, a new battery maybe needed. Get the highest Cold Cranking Amps you can find (at least that's what 's needed on old 70's Dodges). 2014 Silverado with 95,000 miles doing the same thing. Misfire on #1 with a few others with low counts. It seemed to happen out of the blue after getting a fresh tank of gas. Running seafoam and regane seemed to help it once I got a new tank of gas in there but now it's back to engine light coming on and Stabilitrak and traction control light blinking intermittently. Going to put new spark plugs in and maybe a new injector on #1 but after reading this..I would like to be added to the lawsuit. rperryman1@gmail.com
2011 GMC Sierra with 97,000 miles on it. My husband started the truck to warm up before leaving for work. The kids and I headed out to load up so I could take them to school in plenty of time. I noticed the truck was really shaking and shimmying! It was running rough! We got in and buckled up. I went to back out and the display was flashing "Service Traction Control", "Service Stabilitrack", "Engine Power Reduced", "Check Engine", and some other message was flashing, along with check engine light on solid. It wasn't really wanting to drive and it also seemed as if the braking power had been lost too. I shut the truck off and restarted. No resolution. I then turned it off and waited a few minutes before turning it back on. No resolution. We then moved forward slightly to the end of the driveway. I turned the truck off, took the key out, and sat for about 5 minutes. I started the truck and the messages weren't flashing. Still running a bit rough and the check engine light is on yet! Completely irrate and irritated!! We just bought this truck in July used from Richardson Chevrolet in Standish MI. It cost at least $79.95 just to take it in to look at it. We only have one vehicle for our family. We can't afford costly repairs or numerous repairs that will add up. The Stabilitrack and Traction control on these trucks is a joke anyway, especially when a truck is meant to be a truck and used a truck with four wheel drive at times. I'm completely disgusted and disappointed. Vehicles are junk and so are GM products now in which I've driven all my life coming from a GM family.

2008 Suburban- bought about 6 years ago; started burning oil about three years ago. Have to make sure I change oil by every 3000 miles or have issues with oil pressure dropping significantly. Had $2500 of suspension and alignment work done on it about a year ago. Starting having the same issues with Stabilitrak, traction control and ABS lights on, shortly after that. Garage wants to replace valves because "they are causing the engine to run rough and throwing off the sensors". $1800 to $2400. Going to try Grant's suggestion and order the AFM disabler. I'd rather try a $200 fix (with a 30 return policy) than pump more money in to the same vehicle. Please add me to the list for the lawsuit. cassbirk@yahoo.com
@Michael, I cannot agree more by trying the AFM disabler with a 30 day return policy for under $200 is the best first option. A lawsuit even "if it" did get traction will not solve these problems for years if ever. The AFM disabler has now worked without fault on my vehicle for 5 months exactly and besides other Chevy issues on a 10 year old truck I could not be happier with plugging in the disabler thanks to another forum commentator who suggested this.
@Grant - I bought a 07' Avalanche 5.3L 6 weeks ago. Just went for a weekend trip and a couple hours down the highway... BOOM stabilitrak service, flashing check engine light , rough idle... The same thing mentioned a million times above. I had the code read cylinder 6 misfire. I changed plugs and put a new ignition coil in and nothing changed. I just ordered the AFM disabler. I have a 1 year warranty with it but I feel like it's not worth taking it in and having it misdiagnosed or a bill that comes in way over the dollar limit for the warranty.
Just be aware AFM disablers are not allowed for sale or shipping to California which in itself is ironic as the disablers are claimed to be more fuel efficient than GM factory programmed AFM systems that are causing all these issues and this thread alone. https://www.rpidesigns.com/shop/item.aspx/range-technology-active-fuel-management- disable-device-ra003/ https://rangetechnology.com/afm-plus/
@MBAPR80 Yes you will need to disable the problematic General Motors AFM system with a disabler for $200. It also leaves no trace on the vehicle ECU so it will not present any issues with warranty for other issues that may arise.
I have already replaced Lifters 2 years ago $2,300 because the Mechanic believed that was the issue and it began again 3 days ago. The dash read Stabiltrak and then engine shuts down. i am losing way too much business. Add me to any law suits rbcrinc@gmail.com.
2008 Silverado 'Blinky' 89K, ran two months without check engine light. Came on twice in last two weeks. I've had it come on when running trans in '3' with all 8 cylinders firing. I worry the cylinder disabler won't fix the problem. We had an 03 Trailblazer with 137K, it would go down to 'reduced power mode' and putt along. Shut it off, wait 5 min. restart, no problem. It had an intermittent problem with the gas pedal and oil leaks. Good 5.3L motor, didn't use oil, but it was plagued with check engine lights from 25k until 75k, was good until 137K. We fixed it's problem with a new Ford Explorer. Blinky is next up for the Ford or Toyota fix!
I talked to a mechanic I believe to be honest. He said for the amount of work required to pull the heads and do the valves, lifters, AFM, he said if it was his he would drive it until it quits. My luck it will happen while pulling a trailer on a busy interstate. One thing that I've read said it's cheaper to trade in your vehicle with a bad motor that to fix it up first. So I may do like an Uncle of ours, when his Blazer blew in a small town, he parked it, walked across the street to a dealer and bought another vehicle to get home! Makes sense.

@vkholden67 - I really don't think there is a lawsuit. If you haven't be sure you check out the comments regarding the use of an AFM Disabler. The problem your describing has been solved for many by this simple and inexpensive fix.
@Michael. Agreed, many people are not actually reading this detailed forum but assuming a lawsuit which has been only talked about will somehow solve their problems. That will not happen. From my experience and reading others issues the AFM disabler should be the first step and for most, final step to fix the majority of these issues.
@Grant. Yep! I was fortunate to find this forum; read every single response then jumped on the most logical, easy to implement and inexpensive fix (in this case the AFM disabler). Actually it's the only solution that's been offered and for me...corrected the issue immediately. It's difficult to see so many folks posting, seemingly with the same problem yet hoping for a non-existent class action to solve it.
Pretty sad how you need to install this device to make this very known problem go away. Now the next question would be - which device is better - DiabloSport or Range Technology? I live in CA and apparently Range is not sold/shipped to this state.
I had my lifters and cam replaced on my 2012 that I bought last year and had for only 2 weeks. Thankfully I bought the extended warranty!
Wow everyone, this is nuts. fyi, I HAVE been contacted by an attorney in Calif. who handles Lemon Law but I stupidly did not follow through as my truck behaved well for years. I will look it up when I get home after my current ordeal is over. I will tell him about this site with all your email addresses wanting a class action suit. That is the lawsuit side of it but regarding mechanical issue; A seasoned mechanic listened to my engine knocking and told me yesterday it may be fuel injector stuck open could be causing misfire/knocking. This is after new plugs, lots of testing, for spark, wire issues, coils, etc. I was told it was an expensive (min $3,000) lifter replacement by a shop mechanic who already had a similar vehicle currently there for same thing (!). I wish I had read this posting before I drove my 2009 Silverado 4x4 LTZ 1000 miles from home, I had just passed smog test in CA after replacing oil pressure sensor, was running great, but I may have put bad fuel in it...? Now I see it is seems is that darn Flex fuel feature causing all this grief. It makes sense now why problems are only on one bank of valves. I am now stuck in Tucson trying to figure this out not knowing anyone here to recommend a trustworthy mechanic, been yelping it. I have had same issue as most everyone else over the years, service stabilitrack flashing, traction control off, runs very rough at idle, just started running really badly shaking whole truck, knocking when accelerating. Current Code is #7 misfire (most people above stated #7 also). new plugs has in past solved for a year or so but this time the knocking is really bad no way can I drive it home. I am going to focus on repairing possible fuel injector stuck open angle today and see if I can find an AFM blocker too. Plug #7 is filling with fuel says one mechanic so maybe too late for me...? Thanks Chevy, my dealer told me burning 1 quart of oil every 1,000 miles is normal, right.
Grant- I posted a week ago about my 2008 Suburban. I tried the AFM disabler. It worked great that first night. Next day, back to the same old issues: rough idle, Stabilitrak and traction control lights on. Any other thoughts? Already had one mechanic tell me that if it is not the valves ($1800-2400), then it automatically needs a new engine.
Hello everyone that is having the flashing stabilitrak and traction control have you noticed of your cruise control is working? I had the same issues and replaced the brake light switch sensor and fixed the flashing stabilitrak and traction control and my cruise control is working now a $25 dollar fix. I hope this helps everyone with the same issue.
09 silverado 5.3. Yes, I have replaced that part a couple times before, fixed to and brake lights, but don't think it's related to misfire but will try it as cruise was starting to fail intermittently again so worth a try. Was told there is gas filling #7 plug. Replaced plugs and #7 injector already. Plus tried all additives. Am waiting for Range AFM disabler to arrive tomorrow. Motor seems to be stuck on 8 cylinders already so am not expecting my loud ticking to stop when I plug in AFM disabler but am hopeful. Thanks for all your help & comments, will post Lemon law attorney info who contacted me when I get home.
Gracey G: If you have low engine knocking noise, an AFM disabler may not fix your problem. Do you have lots of miles on the truck? If so, maybe you could get something for it on trade in for a Ford or Toyota, (at least that's our plans for Blinky). We just replaced an 03 Trailblazer, with 137K with an Explorer. Blinky will be next, if we can't get it's problem fixed. Just can't stand the thought of another 5.3L Chevy. Pedro mentioned cruise not working with the CEL on, neither does the remote start work when those lights are on. Anyone know if a bad EGR valve would cause these problems?
Finally got my Suburban fixed. Took it to a kinda local dealer (hour drive) and after sitting in the vehicle with him and hooking up his computer to the ecm port, we finally found the issue. Over a period of 4 months, the vehicle would miss but only if there was a load (pulling something or just plain ol' smashing the gas pedal to the floor). It most likely was also missing even under a very light load but not noticeable. To make a long story short, the mechanic was able to see the cylinder 2 misfire in real time and was able to view the history log on the cylinder as well which displayed several thousand misfires. I changed the coil pack, plug, and wire on this cylinder and it still misfires. He recommended that under the circumstances and previous experience with very similar symptoms as other gm trucks that it sounded like it was the fuel injector. He never promised that it would fix the issue because there was a slight possibility of it being something else, but he was pretty sure it was more of mechanical issue than a possible electrical issue. ( As a side note, I never told him that I had been using an AFM disabler after it began acting up because I figured the AFM system was screwing up, so I bought the disabler.) So I had them replace all the injector since they were going to be in there replacing the one, might as well do them all. Since then, it's been about 2 weeks and car runs and drives perfect. All good so far. -As a side note for some of the other owners, when the disabler was out before I had it fixed, and the vehicle would begin missing under load, it eventually would kick on the stabilitrack light and traction control light. The transmission would also downshift hard when slowing the vehicle down. All of this was caused by the fuel injector. Hope this kinda helps some people with their vehicle. This one just about drove me nuts.
2009 Sierra 5.3L , same problems. Got it in January of 2018. 119k miles on it. By July, it started doing all of the above. Replaced all plugs and wires. Cleared problems until October. Took to a local shop who said that there’s an upgrade to the valve cover. Paid $1019.46 for the cover, new plus and wires, fuel injectors cleaned, Idle Air Valve and Intake Chamber Serviced, Throttle Body Plates cleaned, “clear computer memory and relearn computerized adaptive strategy “, added fuel conditioner to fuel tank. LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED AGAIN!!!! It is showing a cylinder #8 misfire now ( the other side). Don’t know if the AFM Disabler will fix it but I can’t keep throwing $1k to it every 4 months! If there is a class action lawsuit, please count me in! druff36@hotmail.com
From what all I've read above, my sons new to him 2016 Z71 has this same issue. He bought it last December '17 with 42K miles on it and it now has about 50-55K miles. The problem just popped up on him this week and when he took it to my mechanic, the mechanic knew what the problem was even before the boy could finish explaining the symptoms. I'm waiting on the outcome of the diagnosis in the morning before I start raising cain, but fromt he sounds of it, only a complet rebuid will solve the problem. Count me in on the class action lawsuit is one has been brought.
I recently purchased a 2009 Sierra Denali with the 6.2L and 174,000km. It's having the identical problem as what's in the title of this thread. The truck has started misfiring under load in the last few weeks, and has occasionally had the flashing engine light and stabilitrack warning. Last night the engine light began flashing constantly and the stabilitrack warning came on more permanently. The truck is running significantly rougher now than it has in the last while. It is also having a hard time maintaining oil pressure during cold start. The previous owner claims to have had the Displacement On Demand system disabled and had a new cam installed. The truck also had new injectors done shortly before I purchased it. I was hopeful that the work completed by the previous owner would have removed the possibility of this type of lifter and/or injector issue happening. I will take it to the shop today, find out what the cause of the issue is, and go from there.
Find out which cylinder is misfiring and do the replacement of the spark plug(s), wire(s) and/or the coil pack(s). Could be one or multiple. To save money that's where I would start. I had the same issue with my 2015 suburban under load and the misfiring was on cylinder number 2 which happened to set off a chain reaction triggering the stabilitrack and flashing check engine light. My ended up having a faulty injector, but since yours has been replaced already, you may get lucky with replacing a plug, wire or coil pack. Hope this kinda helps. It took me 2 months looking through forums before I decided that I needed to take it to the dealer.
Thanks Andrew - Appreciate the info! I'll start there and hope for the best.
Thanks to you both. Mine is at the shop as we speak and they'll get under the hood on it later today. They did give me some hope in saying that since the loss of compression was #8 instead of 7, like most of the others have started out on, it might simply be a coil/plug or wire. Meanwhie, we're one vehicle down and with all three of us working different schedules, today was a trip into reality getting everyone to work on time. Add to it, my wife's aunt passed away earler in the week and my wife and I are leaving this evening for the fuleral tomorrow.
Have similar issue. 2014 silverado missed the powertrain warranty by a week. Misfire on cylinder #4. Swaped the coil pack and new plugs. Still does it, but only when it's in drive. If I turn the truck of then back on and put it in manual it runs fine. If there's a lawsuit, I'm In. MC08053@GMAIL.COM

Had similar issues with 2008 Suburban with 5.3 / Cylinder Deactivation. Occasionally got the Cyl 7 misfire code and played the game replacing plugs and spark plug wires until one night when the light came on on the highway while towing a light (1500 lb) load. Pulled into gas station and it was idling very rough. Fast forward through light diagnostics. Compression check on cyl 7 showed no compression. Pulled valve cover to see if there was a stuck lifter and everything seemed to be operating just fine. Ordered all new lifters on the drivers side and when I pulled the head off, the old lifters looked good and I got nervous. I turned attention to cylinder head and didn't see anything obvious so I turned the head upside down on the workbench so the combustion chamber and valves were facing upwards. Poured some water into each chamber to see if they would hold water and sure enough, the water leaked right through one of the valves in cyl 7. Bought a re- manufactured cylinder head, replaced the lifters on the drivers side bank anyways since I had it apart, and the problem was solved.

It’s been a couple months now after using the disabler and the truck is still running good. I think unhooking the battery and then hooking it back up with the disabler plugged in helped. I haven’t had it plugged in for a while now and everything seems to be going ok. I will update it the problem comes back.
All the same issues. 2009 gmc sierra. 5.3 Missfire #1. Missfire #7. Motor torn apart. Faulty cam/lifters is what I am told by the dealer. 6000K. Add me to the lawsuit. pt.bob@hotmail.com
After some research I have found that the AFM cylinders are 1,4,6,7. 2010 Silverado is giving me a p0308 cylinder 8 misfire which is not an AFM lifter. I have ticking noise when I accelerate, and after about ten minutes of idling the Stabilitrac and check engine flash. I've replaced spark plugs, wires, and tried seafoaming the top end of the block. No help still acting up.
I'm in tallben77@aol.com 2011 5.3 v8 Silverado 1500. Same thing you all are talking about.
Went to my trusted mechanic and it was the throttle body sensor causing all the problems. Engine just cut 157700 km. It was doing everything mentioned, no remote start, rough idle, cruise cutting out, down to 4 cylinders. Shifting hard, fighting gas pedal to get up to 50 kph (30 mph). Something in the sensor just goes and it screws up a whole bunch of things, including the stabiltrack light, traction light, empty windshield washer and engine light. These were all false codes. A new Throttle body sensor fixed it. 2012 Avalanche 5.3.

2011 Chevy Silverado 5.3L z71 4 WD. 100k miles OMG this happens every year to me, like i hit the jackpot on my control panel every light pops up and dings and whistles...also my horn got stuck and my truck doesn't want to start if i set the alarm, something is drawing power, **** i also smoke im wondering if any of you guys smoke, i often drop ash in between the steering wheel and dash, im thinking this maybe a problem with the instrument cluster i also just installed an aftermarket stereo it seems things have gotten worse..******* its always cylinder 7, throttle body replacement, all new spark plugs, everything you guys have done yadda yadda and 1,000 bucks at oil change time,. every time they fix it (clear the codes), then a month later here comes the check engine light but this time is worse almost slammed me into the median on the 91.. now i dont have the money to fix and feels like im driving the boat. still no solutions? here are the codes from the mechanic: 3 weeks prior to the Stabilitrak and traction control and blinking engine light. p0307 p0121 p0521
so after my local guy couldn't fix it and the dealership on monday. the throttle body code came up - they fixed that. took it for a spin - light came came back on. then they said "an abraded wire for the accelorator pedal - circuit 2 signal, beneath/under hood fuse block" was bad. so they replaced it. i've only driven it 2 times - so we will see.
Finally got the Range afm disable device and it seems to have worked. Smooth shifting, no check engine light, no stabilitrak error but check 4 wheel drive still comes up. Havn't tried shifting into 4wd yet as It was the 1st drive since I put it in. Will try the next time
2007 GMC Yukon. Same issues has the Stabilitrac and check engine flashing and feels like it is misfiring. Replaced spark plugs and had codes red multiple times telling us the engine was bad. Bought the vehicle 3 months ago and have now replaced the 5.3 liter engine. Got the car back ran great and then 100 miles later same issues. Brought back to mechanic he replaced a coil on the 1st valve. Ran great for another 100 miles and the same problems. We are stuck now and have no idea why this is happening. IF there is some sort of lawsuit sign me up. Any answers would be greatly appreciated!!!
Did you ever get a resolution to the problem? I owned a GM truck that I had to part with because of this issue . I have recently bought another one and have had the unfortunate luck of having the same problem with this truck. I know the owner of the original truck and neither of us have a resolution to this problem. A lawsuit needs filed that's for sure!!
I posted a day ago about getting the afm disabler by Range. So the check 4 wheel drive still comes up. While sitting in park I did try shifting into 4hi and 4low but it only blinked and did not shift. Those of you that have gotten the Range or similar device have this issue as well? Were you able to correct it? Everything else is working fine other than this. I don't use 4 wheel drive but want to make sure it will not be an issue down the line. Thanks!!!
afm disabler by Range did not work for 2011 Tahoe
My 2007 Silverado, 217K, did the stabilitrak message, flashing CEL light, ticking, reduced power, hard shifting thing last wednesday, took to my mech and was not real sure what to tell me other than they have had this problem come in, my truck will run low on oil pressure when I get to the 3000 mile point of the last oil change, and my mechanic says changing the oil gasket on top of the oil pickup tube solved the problem on previous repairs they have preformed, I suppose after the repair, it has fresh oil, and better oil pressure with the new o'ring, from what i've read these o'rings will go bad around the 150,000 mile mark, I read in one of the posts from a retired GM mechanic that the oil being fresh may be a big factor in all this, which i can live with, making sure the oil gets changed at 3k, and the AFM deactivating device sounds like a helpful item. Alot of stupid stuff to do to keep a vehicle running, sounds like GM won't grow a set and do the right thing, sad.
My 2015 sierra is in the sho now. 2d time it happened. First time fixed itself, no explanation. We’ll see what the verdict is this time...
These trucks with AFM in a 5.3L are junk. Nobody can fix them when the idiot lights start up. Our 2008 Silverado (Blinky) looks nice in it's Black Cherry finish with light gray (almost white) interior. Now it seems possessed, taken over by the devil and GM. Some things that have seemed to help is the Valve Cleaner spray job, cleaning contact of the wiring harness under the hood with spray contact cleaner, using Non-ethanol gasoline (when we can find it) and maybe this last idea is working, we now use only Mobil gasoline. Maybe there is better additives in some fuel than others. We now are up to 60 days between lights. I now just reset them. I plan to drive it until it locks up, then deal with it. It now has 88,950 miles, too early for it to die. I really feel for the people who put in new motors and still have the problem. Best think I know to do is never buy another Chevrolet. We've had 4 very good ones in the 1990s, but some were POS trucks in a 1970 and 1986, that should have ended my Chevy affair with that 86 K20. But the 90 models were good. Now they make crap again. I've had enough! It will be Fords for awhile.

I've got a 2007 sierra nbs with the 5.3 and 134k. I had the same issues, check engine light, stabilitrac and rough shift and idle. It was a lifter so I ordered a new jasper to have my mechanic install. After it was installed it still ran pretty poorly, not much power and it heated up my catalytic coverters so much it blew the inside of them out the exhaust pipe. Granted I ordered the same engine just without the drop cylinder, but I had a seperate certified mechanic come in to do the delete for it and it didn't help a thing. Called Jasper assuming it was a bad engine so they sent another one and it runs the exact same. They've replaced close to everything possible to help and nothing yet. Been 2 and a half weeks and it has damn near everyone stumped. Today we had the computer scanned and reset and still nothing. Major flaw from GM, shouldn't have messed with the great motors they had prior to 07 with that drop cylinder bullshit. If somebody's worried about fuel economy, buy a Camry.

My truck was having a misfire on #4... s-trak and traction ctrl lights on.. hard shifting. I replaced the spark plugs and wires with genuine AcDelcos over the weekend. Got my Diablosport iTune3 yesterday (Wednesday) ( eBay $200 factory refurbished with guarantee!!! Don’t buy the AFM ONLY!!) and tuned the AFM out. Put the Diablo tune on as well. I’ve gained power, torque, and it’s a tad bit louder it seems. I had no issues for the three days between spark plug/wire replacement and the tuner coming in... probably about 200 miles for me altogether. I’m hoping it’s fixed! Always try spark plugs first before you go taking it to chevy dealer!
I just got off the phone with my mechanic, new oil pickup tube o'ring, timing chain guides (they found chunks of plastic in the oil pan which were the timing chain guides), valve jo, b on both sides, new plugs, dipstick (old one was broke at the upper mount) and water pump since it was starting to "howl", all said and done it will cost $4000.00, which I certainly am not happy about. In talking to my mechanic, who I trust, he said I should not have to worry about this happening again, he tells me they have done many of these and the customers have had good going with them, being they see these same customers on a somewhat regular basis for there other cars they would know if they went bad again, now, I know this doesn't mean it cant happen again to mine, trust me, I am nervous about this vehicle, and I do know it has happened more than once to the same vehicle with many of you out there, I'm going to go with my mechanics suggestion of drive it, don't worry about it, they have done many of these same repairs, and none have come back, and I'm still contemplating the AFM disabler, going to see what my mechanics opinion is on this. Thank you all for your posts, it helps when "victims" can talk.
Ok so my 2010 Sierra was having same issues as everyone else. I haven’t been driving it for the last month or so. Ordered the Range Disabler, just installed in my truck. I unhooked the battery for 20 minutes or so (I read someone recommended this) then plugged in the disabled. All of the warning lights (stabilitrak, traction control, flashing engine) stopped flashing. Shifting smooth again. I still have loss of power while trying to accelerate. I find that pushing the tow button seems to help. The disabler seemed to take care of a lot ignored the problem but there is still something causing the rough idle and power loss. Unhooking the battery caused the a/c to start blowing hot air on the driver side. Shit truck off, pulled ac fuse for about a minute, plugged it back in and a/c is working again.
All the same problems with my 2011 Chevy Silverado. Debating on rebuilding the engine but after reading all of this, I think it's time to get away from Chevy. Add me shannon082873@yahoo.com.
I would highly reccomend checking if your mass airflow sensor needs to be changed. I had mine replaced and calibrated and the truck runs fine now I sent the disabler back. On the note of the afm i spoke with an expert and he says to make sure to change your oil at 5000 km or less and you shouldn't have a problem. The build up in the lifters is what causes them to fail.

Put my name on the list... I bought my 2009 Silverado new and have fought it and spent money ever since. From the start.... If I accelerated the engine light came on. GM finally did a bunch of work and that only happens occasionally. I have always gotten the engine light at the stabilock light. but it was on and off or I could reset it Finally the gas mileage was so bad I had my mechanic check and the exaust sensors were shot.. The truck had blue smoke out the back from the day I bought it. The $2500 sensors and pipes were changed twice and the mileage improved until now. The engine light was on very often for a year but could be reset. Code misfire. The stabilok light has always come on and off but last night I used my 4x4 to get down a boggy road and the light will now not go off. It will not shift gears and just revs in the lower gears.. There is no code when checked with the reader. I have fought this truck for 9 years and pored in too much money. I have to decide if I want to dump it or keep fixing it. I traded a 1994 Chev 350 with 427,000 km, never motor problems, never trans problems, and reliability on this truck and everyday I wish I had the old one back.

This is a ridiculous amount of people. I changed mass air flow, then all my plugs and wires. Worked fine. Also rest my fuel trim as the alcohol content was outrageously high, light went off and worked fine for 6 months. The problems back with avengence, choking sputtering, flashing engine light and stabilitrack light, Chevy, take responsibility this is ridiculous. I shouldn’t have to to pay 3- 5 thousand dollars to keep my truck on the road with an engine rebuild, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM? FIX IT
I do not have an answer, I just keep on getting the same problem, the engine light on and a message that the traction is off as well as the stabilitrak. Have taken the truck in a number of times, spent a good amount of money on it and NOTHING! I agree with some of the remarks, a class action suit is needed. This issue has gone on long enough! It is getting too costly and the inconvenience of not having the truck for extended periods of time.
2010 GMC Sierra 4.8 l showing flashing check engine light and stabilitrack. Replaced spark plus and wires. Didn’t fix problem. Pluged in code reader and showed bad coil on 4 cylinder. Replace damaged coil and all is good
2007 Sierra. ALL the same problems. Have the range arm disabler installed which made all codes and stabilitrak go away. But it is still misfiring and running rough. The disabler somehow just prevents the codes from being thrown somehow. Add me to the lawsuit from up in Canada!! kurtis514@hotmail.com

Add me gavinbender@yahoo.com. My 2013 Denali 74k I just bought a year ago is doing this. I put a range on it a few months ago and it hasn’t happed since until this last Sunday I had a gymnastics meet a few hours away so I unplugged the range and Drive fine all the way there but I the way back acted up and could barley take off from a stop light to get to a gas station to pull over. Plugged the range in after shutting my truck off and drove 150 miles home no problems
2010 Sierra 5.3 all the same issues, stabilitrak shutting off, traction control, engine light flashing, no power, rough idle, hard shifting. Mine would only do this occasionally then run great for weeks at a time. Until one day when it started running rough and just wouldn’t stop. Purchased Range disabler a couple of weeks ago. Plugged it in and the truck was a lot better but not perfect. All of the warning lights were stopped coming on, but the truck was still idling rough. By the 2nd day with the disabler it was back to doing the same as before. Plugged in a scanner, Misfiring in 1, replaced the plugs, and now this truck runs like new. It’s actually a pleasure to drive it again. It’s been 5 days and so far so good. I’m leaving the disabler plugged in from now on. No more V4 for me as I truly believe this is original cause.

GMC what a shame. I traded in my 2001 Yukon XL that WORKED fine for a 2009 XL with above problems shortly after purchase! Sold me a lemon. Loud tick, sounds like a valve tapping or busted lifter / rod? Will see what the GMC dealer says. In the interim ordered a RANGE.
Check your codes with a scanner! It could be something silly and easy. I had the exact same symptoms and warning lights and after checking my codes, it mentioned something in the air intake. Turns out when I replaced my passenger side headlight that I forgot to re- attach my intake hose to the aircleaner box and plug in that sensor. After I re-attached that everything is fine.
Same junk but with a twist. My 2012 60k mile Silverado does all the same crap as above but there is no codes on scanner. The other thing mine does when stabiltrac blinks is the auto door locks unlock/lock three of four times rapidly. If there is a real fix or class action out there would love to hear it. csean58@yahoo.com

Just happened to me on my 2012 Chevy Silverado. Driving on Friday July 26, 2019 Stabilitrack light came on rough idle, check engine light blinking all happened within 1 minute. Called the Chevy dealer where I purchased the truck, they told me when the engine light comes on and is blinking quote "That's dangerous" on quote. Ugh, so sad! 2010 Silverado that I just bought for my husband is also doing this. It’s start with P0420 code & blowing out white smoke when we took to the mountains. We drove it home only for it to have a flashing engine light, stabilizer track light, & it was hesitant to accelerate. I let my foot off the gas to slow down then pushed the gas again & it started driving again but the check engine light solid. I feel sickened. We’re low on funds so I guess I’ll be making a payment on a truck that’s just going to sit in my yard until I can afford a nonexistent repair.
Just finished my 2nd rebuild and my 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 5.3 is doing the exact same thing as most people on here. Add me to the lawsuit as well. ugdawgs22@gmail.com
Guys have you checked your mass airflow sensor? Thats what it was for me and been good ever since.

Having this issue with my 2007 Tahoe. A few ppl on another forum said the Body Control Module is the culprit. Idk for sure, but these trucks are expensive so it is beyond ridiculous that this is a thing. I've been a "Chevy Girl" like forever, this is disheartening and makes me never want another Chevy again. That feels weird to even type.
Just started the same problem with my 2015 Siverado 5.3L... Stabilitrak and Engine light came on with ticking noise and loss of power..po307 code which is #7 cylider misfiring...changed all plugs and wires and now get code po300 which is random cylinder misfirings...WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THESE ENGINES??????....ADD me to CLASS ACTION SUIT ...PRONTO...Does anyone know what is going on with the lawsuit?
Chris_Mc75 is correct, I have the same issue with my 2009 GMC Yukon...I have to change spark plugs all the time ...its always #2 and #7 misfiring .......I am with whoever wants to go after GMC and Chevy
The issue is perpetual with this 5.3l engine. The AFM plug in worked for me for over 12 months but the issue becomes removing the AFM to get your emissions as the OBD has present all the codes and that takes the usual drive cycles to be ready for emissions testing. Meanwhile the above issues strike again. Unfortunately or fortunately this occurred with my 08 Chev Suburban few weeks back so it is headed to a junk yard for scraps. I would never buy a chevy again after this nonsense. Doesn't help others find answers but the 5.3l is a flawed design and also underpowered for the size of a suburban,
This is such a shame. My 2014 silverado with 34000 miles did this a day after my warranty ran out. Two days later went to the dealer, paid 130 to diagnose. Due to the afm I needed to replace the right bank cam and lifters for a total of 3200. Haha funny right.. Even went through corporate and they would knock it down to half, but I had to cover the cost of the rental, and then there's no guarantee it won't happen again. Didn't sit well with me especially since they know that there is a problem. Unfortunately as much as I loved my truck with the issues and lack of customer care I won't be buying another chevy. A coworker just went and purchased a used chevy and is now having the same issues. Lol. Told him not to buy it.
I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado truck with 58,000 mi. Two weeks ago got a check engine light, reduced engine power, Stabilitrak failure and traction control fault. It happened all at once and caused me quite a bit of frustration and confusion trying to determine which came first (chicken or egg scenario). The truck stuttered, shuttered, seemed to lose transmission engagement; literally scary and an imposing, non-ignorable assault by a design imposed on me by engineers in a corporation that think they have done a good deed for society and the environment. This reminds me of the Boeing 737 MAXX 8 airplanes, except, and this is a big deal, these vehicles are on the ground and those planes are in the sky (with pilots fighting the software/firmware code imposition over human control). What we are experiencing is very similar, i.e., software/firmware control over human control without concern for safety with backup redundancy if the "computer software/firmware/code" puts a human being in danger. If you read these posts here you must see that this AFM design (and some of the other design features that take over control of the vehicle) are faulty as per the design (and the flowchart behind it). GM should bite the bullet and allow us all to have a redundant path for these "supposedly" design improvements (whether for the environment or for human safety). These posts should cause GM to take action to assist their customer base. Believe it or not I am a GM guy! I love GM vehicles. My dad loved GM vehicles. My grandfather loved GM vehicles. Now, back to my particular issue. With the poor drive performance of my truck, when I got it home, I connected my OBDII scanner to the diagnostic port to see what was being reported as error codes. Code was P2135 which relates to the throttle body/accelerator pedal combination with some words about a switch A/B error. Cleaned the throttle body. Problem stayed. Changed out the throttle body sensor and performed open - close agree/disagree alignment procedure. Problem stayed (P2135). Next replaced the accelerator pedal with its new "travel position sensor" included in its assembly. Performed the open - close agree/disagree alignment procedure. Problem went away this time (P2135 gone). The P2135 was caused by the acceleration pedal position sensor. (It should be noted that I disconnected the battery before each and every troubleshooting diagnostic attempt step. Now when starting the truck it still runs rough with an engine light on the dash and it seemed to intermittently post a P0222 error code on my OBDII scanner. Truck runs great while you just let it idle but when you rev the engine it goes right back into WIC "limp" mode (engine power reduced). (Happy that all of this work is being done in my driveway and not the freeway.) Now, the final kicker....I read all of these posts on this great website and then decided to just change out the spark plugs and plug wires (58,000 mi on them) and order the Range Technology OBDII port plug-in module. This last combination fixed the problem. No error codes now when I check and the truck runs better than ever. This was just done today 8-31-19 so validation proves itself over time. BUT....Many...Many thanks to Grant for pointing out the AFM disabler device. Many thanks also to the others reporting their experiences with this type of situation. My take away from this whole troubleshooting process is that the problem could actually be several problems that need to be addressed like "peeling and onion". Step by step should get us there. We should be careful to not "throw our hands up" and replace engines or engine "gut parts" especially when your vehicle can idle smoothly in your driveway. Loud clicking or ticking sounds may dictate other action but please be careful of dealerships. Sharing my experience...wayne...ex R&D engr (has-been drip under pressure, i.e. "expert")
BTW, my truck has a 5.3L engine with the infamous active fuel management de-hancement.
@ exCompagr - I like your chicken-n-egg and peeling the onion analogies...very appropriate. As most everyone else on this board, I too have (had?) the exact issue you describe. After much reading the ONLY 'fix' I implemented was the AFM disabler. Once installed the issues seemingly, went away immediately. After a year of using the disabler, the only concern I've run into so far is the fear I experienced when I had to remove it and drive enough miles for the computer to reset so that it could pass emmissions. I'd very much like to get another 100K miles out of my truck but just taking it year by year.
I have the very same concern. I'm thinking that when the truck safety inspection time nears that I will do a "mock trial" of the 50 mile drive without the Range Technology OBDII module installed (removed from the OBDII port completely...no port multiplier here) and determine if there are any scanner codes or rough idling at that time. I'm thinking that my changing the spark plugs and spark plug wires may have helped that situation as when I examined plug # 7 there was fouling and corrosion/contamination buildup within that plug between the ground tip and the porcelain. That is the plug that gets all the infamous "bad reports" on the website. It appears that they are true. With this, one should not ever believe that 100,000 mi. on a set of plugs is viable on a GM vehicle with AFM (cyl. 1, 4, 6, 7 enable/disable per power demand) as this cylinder # 7 is going to test this situation every time AFM "kicks into" 4 cylinder mode (AFM functionality enabled). I actually did have (originally) a P2135 code error on my truck which was related to the throttle body sensor/acc. pedal assy. sensor functionality, but once that was fixed the other spark plug #7 situation was waiting on me to address it also (peeling the onion). These combinational troubleshooting situations really cause us DIY'rs issues and test our endurance to continue down the path of believing in our capabilities to arrive at a final and total solution. Often times in my prior career this was the process when dealing with firmware code issues with computer storage devices. When you fixed one issue there was another one exposed and this could happen several times until all were identified and corrected (product fixed...finally). So, I think that this type of thing may become more prevalent (and I really hope not for us all) as new designs push multiple sub-components including hardware and firmware/software to the point beyond which they should AND then electronic intervention design "kicks-in" and takes over the control of the vehicle (without redundancy/control recourse which thing I really hate). I guess we shall see what will happen in the future, but I'm concerned that cost reductions, product launch timings, and non-concern for reliability will cause designers/manufacturers to turn their heads away from us DIY'rs and our concerns (and possibly even the safety of us and our families. There is a danger in the marketplace that manufacturers really do not want products to last very long so that people will always have to "buy new" every few years. Keeps them in business...keeps them rich. My brother and I were discussing this situation and have a theory that the older vehicles may actually make a revival and start to sell for more money on the market because DIY'rs can actually understand and fix them (and they may be more reliable and safer), but it's just a theory. In closing, I hope you do not have vehicle problems to fix, and if you do, that the troubleshooting/problem identification path be clear, that you keep endurance and determination to arrive at "the final corrective solution", and that you not do as others have done (too quickly) and just throw your hands up and take the vehicle to the dealership service department (cha...ching..ola). 58,000 miles here...2010 Silverado LT 5.3L. Bye for now.
I need to update this situation. 9-27-2019. 2010 Silverado with 5.3L engine, 58,000 mi., LT, 2 wheel drive, and Crew cab. I have been going through the problem I described coming back and going away for almost two months now. I though it was fixed. It came back at the strangest times, usually when in PARK idling. Yesterday we found the problem. (The truck must have heard I was going to get my oscilloscope out and start examining signals. Ha!) Anyway, I noted that the problem seemed to always come back only after I re- installed the "Vortec" top engine plastic cover on it. Big Clue. So, it was noted that the cover was affecting the harness routed around the top/back of the engine. That was the harness that contained the wires going to the TPS (throttle-body position sensor). The wire that was the TPS sensor 2 signal wire (scanner reported "switch B circuit low voltage DTC - P0220 error) which is a purple wire (wire "F" at the TPS) was routed on the outside level/layer of the harness right up against the transmission dip stick tube (TDST). The TDST vibrates like a "tuning fork", especially at idle in PARK. (In drive it seems to not oscillate like a "tuning fork" so much.) I got up into the engine compartment to look closely at that purple wire routed close the the TDST. It was night time so I was using a bright flashlight to look at this. Low and behold I saw the insulation had been rubbed off the purple wire right at the point where it was routed up against the TDST. I saw a "sliver" of copper strand of the conductor wire, bare and shiney". It was not much, but enough to interact with the TDST which is actually engine/body ground! I though surely this cannot be the cause of my problem, so I tested the situation multiple times in "make the problem come back and then make the problem go away" process methodology. This is unbelievable, but true. I could make the problem come back by firmly pressing against the harness (as is done by the "Vortec" cover) up against the TDST while the engine was idling in PARK. I would then pull the harness away from the TDST shut the engine down and re-start it and the problem would go away. I did this four times shutting the engine off and re-starting it noting the problem coming back (harness pressed firmly against the TDST) and going away (harness pulled slightly away from the TDST). It should be noted that the problem that showed on the dash display WAS: Engine Power Reduced - Stabilitrak error icon light - service traction control message - CEL (Check Engine Light) ....every time...with OBDII DTC scanner codes P0220 P2135 P0222. Now that this diagnostic testing has been validated, it is also theorized that high humidity environments also aggravate the situation to cause the issue intermittently, especially during wet conditions. It should be noted also that the TDST showed minor removal of its black epoxy paint covering, but there must have been enough removal to effectuate a ground to the TPS 2 switch B circuit signal output from the TPS so that the ECM/TAC caused these resultant errors and engine de-optimizations through this problem detection. Crazy!!! YES! TRUE. YES! So far now after this fix (harness rerouted and wire wrapped with insulation wrapping) no problem and good idling and driving. I will update later if anything else happens, but I think we nailed this one. I sincerely hope this helps others participating in this forum.
My son has 2007 Silverado. Had engine rebuild due to these exact same problems - rough ride, ticking and hard shift. After engine rebuild truck still ticking & rough ride. Took to another mechanic who works on nothing but GM. Found cylinder 7 stuck, few other small issues. Got truck back, running great until today. 2 weeks on new engine, ticking present then truck starts to shift hard again, rough running & stabilitrak lights on. WTF? Is there a class suit happening and how would we get involved. No idea what he is going to do w vehicle, afraid to put more money in it
My first step would be to connect an OBDII scanner to the truck's OBDII port below the dash and read the error codes. I think that parts suppliers may do that for you for free. OBDII scanners are fairly cheap now-a-days (I have an Autel...less that $30.00) that I used to read the codes that I shared with this forum. Based on what you retrieve from it you may formulate a plan based in internet research and also this forum. So, that would be my first action.
GuruHC9Z5: Did you read the error codes yet from the OBDII port with a scanner? What did you get?
Check your main Ground cable going from engine to chassis to battery, multiple misfire is the code I got, checked where the misfires are coming from and they are only on odd bank. Electrical issue was my immediate thought. Started with the battery ground grabbed the cable and, lights dimmed doors locked and unlocked engine stumbled all over itself. Connections are all tight must be a break in the wire. Will be ordering the part tomorrow so we will see. Will also be checking the ECU plug. 2008 1500 lt 5.3l 133,000 miles. Christmas tree on dash was initial problem.
Hey guys i had the same exact issue on my 09 silverado 5.3l problem was stuck lifters and bad cam Had an AFM DELETE done on my engine and problem solved..pretty pricy fix so sign me up if the lawsuit is still on alobsan@yahoo.com
To Raul: How did you do the AFM DELETE and how much did it cost you? I'm considering doing the same thing.to extend my engine life.

Just started having this same issue with my 2016 Silverado 5.3L. Flashing engine light, erratic stablitrac light, rough idle, hard shifts, loss of power. Only 33k on the truck. If there is a lawsuit, I want to be in as well. This is completely unacceptable! bobcat979@gmail.com

I have a 2012 Silverado 5.3L, Has less than 96,000 miles on it, and all 3 lights came on during my commute to work. I turned it off and back on, the lights went off but it was still idling rough. I emailed the guy directly to see if he got anywhere with the lawsuit, but have not heard back yet. If I continue to keep having these issues I am going to reach out to a lawyer myself. Hopefully with the amount of people on this thread we can get somewhere.
First recommendation is to connect an OBDII scanner to the OBDII port below the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash. Vehicle inspections connect to this port for your vehicle emissions test for your safety inspection each year. The scanner device only costs about $19.99 at Walmart. It also comes with instructions on how to connect it and "scan" for the error codes. When you get those codes share them with us on this forum of friendly folks for information to flow to you from all participants. We probably already have some ideas but the error codes help to focus to the source of the problem (taking some guess-work out). Other than that, please check out my "exCompaqr" replies to a similar situation to this that happened to me on my 2010 Siverado 5.3L truck.
I had the same issues guys. I purchased an AFM from Range Technologies for $200 plugged it in my OBD2 port and it fixed ALL the issues. Read through this blog others have too!
AFM didn't fix mine.

Stabilitrak and traction control finally stopped freaking out, but now I got that little shiny check engine light as well as the rough idle still. I ran the codes and got P0301 which is a misfire on cylinder 1. I order the parts to replace the spark plugs, wire and coils packs. I'm praying this will fix it! I'll update y'all once I get everything installed
This sounds like the correct "next step". If you have never change the spark plugs before this will probably fix the problem.

I have a 2010 Silverado and have the same problem. Engine light flashing stability light on roughy idle. Brought it to Chevy and they couldn’t find anything wrong with it. Got back home and lights came on again. I’m at a lost. I don't need anything happening while my kids are in the truck.

Sign me up for the lawsuit. 2013 Silverado just started doing this crap with 130k. It’s on and off right now thank god because I’m currently in the truck, my husband is driving and we have about 800 miles to go to get home. My 2010 broke a cam shaft at 100k And it was 4 grand to fix that. I’m not made of money and I owe too dang much on this one.

My 2011 Avalanche LTZ Flex Fuel 5.3L w/AFM 182k kms is just now experiencing the Stabilitrak service, traction control service, check engine light flashing, hard shift first/second gear, rough idle, rough start and the tick I have heard forever is noticeably louder...Just like what seems thousands on this thread have experienced. My mechanic told me years ago when I mentioned ‘the ticking sound’ he flat out said a lifter, it’s the AFM, GM knows it’s a problem but won’t do anything about it. He said leave it until it becomes a problem so here we are. I plan to check what comes up on the OBD tomorrow and am expecting the codes everyone else had throughout these threads. I haven’t changed spark plugs and wires on it yet so was going to try that first but I’m seriously considering ordering the AFM disabler as that seems to be a golden ticket for some here but my question is this. Does that ‘fix’ the issue without anything else being done first or is the AFM disabler being put on after other work was done? Lifters replaced, etc. So preventing it from happening again?
Please check out my "exCompaqr" information strings, the OBDII codes, but even more so the routing of the wiring harness around the top rear of the engine between the transmission dip stick filler tube and the engine or Vortec plastic cover. A simple thing to do is to temporarily remove the Vortec cover and move the harness (which I mentioned is routed around to the throttle body assembly) towards the front of the engine compartment. It's an easy thing to do. Do this firmly, not too hard, to just separate it from any rubbing on the transmission filler tube. If you read my info sharing you'll see this solved my problem. I suspect all late model Silverados or Avalanches with the 5.3L engine may have this problem. I think it is a design flaw.
Guys. The issue with the lifters are all associated with the active fuel management system on all 5.3 E85 models. Afm turns off the lifters on 4 cylinders when they aren’t needed. Over time the lifters clog and oil Presure will not pump them back up. You can replace all the lifters with oem parts or you can put corvette Ls parts back in and never have the issue again. Also buy a programmer that turns off the afm for good. But if your already experiencing the misfire it’s probably to late.
Zero6392: I agree with your answers. I especially agree with the bit about the AFM disabler. Active Fuel Management on these vehicles IS a design flaw. This being true, there are other issues which I have shared with this forum which are definitely true. I had an intermittent grounding problem on a wire causing a throttle body detector "Signal B Low" problem throwing the truck into "limp mode" with CEL, Traction Control Off, Stabilitrak Icon ON, and Reduced Engine Power. You'll see my analysis if you research my replies relative to my truck's identified and corrected issue. One question for you. Were you able to turn OFF AFM without an OBDII port "plug-in" dongle like the Range Technology device? I am very interested in disabling the truck's AFM without a dongle plug-in into the OBDII port so that at safety inspection time I wouldn't have to remove the device from the port. Do you have an answer for me on this? Thanks.
Count me in on the lawsuit @jone4070@belssouth.net. I own 4 Chevys with two of these 2014 1500 trucks with 5.3L and AFM systems and we are having the same exact issues as described in this thread. I will be adding the AFM disabler as soon as today on one to see if it helps - otherwise I have 2 engines to deal with! I have driven Chevy since the 80's but these are the last four! GM is not what it use to be!
Ive got a 2018 z71 crew cab and just went through this same thing. Filled my gas tank and went a block when my stabilitrack light came on followed by my check engine light. When parked the light stayed solid and when i drove it flashed. Code came back as a misfire so got it to the dealership and they said carbon had got between my spark plug and connector. Supposedly replaced plug and runs fine for now. Only 23k miles on it.

Add me in to the lawsuit. Same exact issues here. AJSheets2@gmail.com
Lawsuit! Need to get a social media thing snowballing for this. I’m 2 years a first time small business owner and this exact issue is close to ducking my whole business. Engine replaced under warranty thank god about a year ago and now this. Just a shame. #GenerallyBadMotors Someone grab that handle and go with it
Please add me the lawsuit. 2013 Yukon XL doing the same thing. Replaced spark plugs multiple times and valve cover. Still having the same issues. barneejoe@yahoo.com
Add me as well. 2007 Chevy Suburban. Stabilitrak and switches to 4 cylinders only(reduced engine power light). Only happens when it's very cold outside. There's no fix out there for this. I disconnect the battery to reset the computer chip and let the truck rest for a few and it's fine....until it freezes over again. olivercaine@live.com
Assuming this is repeatable: While it is very cold this winter, I would each day, when the truck is very cold, focus on one localized area with an hair blow dryer until I found the suspect area, then "drill-into" that component, wiring harness, or connection until it is isolated and corrected. Takes time and determined effort but such a process is necessary to identify and correct the issue to keep costs down involved in hourly mechanics fees and alleviation of "part swapping". I had to go down this similar type of path (problem source isolation) when trouble-shooting my 2010 Silverado pickup. The "help" to you is that it is repeatable with very low temperature inducements. (There is also freeze-spray available in an aerosol can that can help in re- inducing the low temperature catalyst in very localized areas for trouble-shooting purposes.)
LISTEN UP!! If you want to fix this problem purchase an AFM disabler. I bought one a year and a half ago and I have had no issues since. Granted I lost like 2 mph highway but I didnt buy a truck for the gas mileage anyways. Well worth that $200-$250 in my opinion
I have a 2018 Silverado truck sat for a day, jumped in to drive to work earlier this evening didn’t make it more then a block from home when service stab track started showing up, proceeded to drive problem got worse, traction control off, service stabilitrak, service trailer break, power steering has been turned off flashing check engine light. I had a 2010 Silverado a couple years ago, and had the same thing pop up, thought nothing of it and ended up blowing a head gasket which cost 5000$ to repair parts and what not.. “from the dealership” washed my hands of that truck got a new one.. Contacted my mechanic friend, he said to disconnect batter for 75 minutes nothing less so I did that, every warning but service stabilitrak is gone NEED I MENTION while driving/parked my gauges were showing 0’s accords the board from rmp, oil pressure, volts and speed I couldn’t drive faster then 20km at the time it wouldn’t allow me to go into second gear so I limp mode to work to park it over night while I’m here. If the issue proceeds I will be taking it to Chevy first thing Monday morning and complaining about the situation truck has 19760km on it KILOMETRES there shouldn’t be such a huge issue with it. In mention the weather has gone from -10°c to -1°C in the last couple days Any suggestions prior to me going in? I also run an afm disabler due to the sXXt sound you get with exhaust on the highway..
2008 chev 148 000 and out of blue flashing egine light and traction shit. This is a jab in the ass with a rusty fork from GM
My 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 vin 3 (lc9) motor is doing the same thing. It started running really rough along with a loud knocking sound as well as service stabiltrack, traction control, and flashing check engine lights on. It also shifts hard especially at slower speeds. I am under the understanding from my dealer that the active fuel management system as caused one of my afm lifters to fail which is causing this bad misfire. Worried I'll be looking at paying $5000 for a new engine now. Please add me to the lawsuit lists Chris. Joelkreller@gmail.com
Please get an error code reader and connect it to your OBDII port and scan for the error codes and report them to this forum for further advice. Dealers love money. Your determined effort to identify the problem and report those codes to this forum may help you to save a ton of money!
I eventually junked my 08 Suburban to the wreckers and funnily enough saw it advertised with a new engine elsewhere. I used the AFM disabler successfully for 12 months but had to disconnect it for the emissions test. I also had some cat converter problems and I didn't want to through more money at this lemon. I still have the AFM disabler if which I paid $190 will sell for $50 if someone wants it. If it doesn't work happy for you happy to take it back. Lots of talk about class action but nothing of substance on this forum from what I have read yet. There is a link below if someone wants to run with it of a company that seeks class action lawyers and this one was in regards to another junk product, Kenmore fridge compressors. I gave up on my fight but Im sure plenty others haven't. I think this 5.3L V8 inherent problem is a very dangerous situation from personally driving a vehicle that without warning will through itself into 4 cylinder limp mode without warning when driving. This happened to me many times and the questions has to be asked 'what happens when this occurs whilst legitimately overtaking another vehicle on a highway and this happens without warning? A serious accident, injury, death. The recall should have been done on safety grounds for this reason alone. https://www.classaction.org/lg-refrigerator-linear-compressor-failure-lawsuits
I called gm corporation the other day about this issue with the p0306 cylinder 6 misfire and they said that there is nothing they can do and the lady told me she wishes more people would call in the issue so they woukd do something about it, SO EVERYONE, PLEASE START CALLING, BLOW THEIR PHONES UP ABOUT THIS ISSUE SO WE ALL CAN GET REIMBURSED OR A RECALL WILL BE MADE

Probably should have posted my problems as well. 2007 SUBURBAN LT With 230,000 miles.had these same problems with it when driving on vacation recently. parked it for now.all the cel lights rough idle, running, shifting. checked/replaced all the spark plugs and wires. checked spark from the coil packs down to the plugs. originally it threw a po301 code now it just po300,random. changed the #1 plug on the road with no change, until about 100 miles more into the trip and it smoothed out perfectly for about 250 miles and then right back to where it is now. i dont have all the lifter noise some are talking about but i think my problem is the fuel injector isnt firing or letting fuel into the cylinder at all.like i said i have verified there is spark on all cylinders. it is showing the traction control/stabilitrak cel off then back on as many of the adds have said. im going to try to check the injector before replacing but im also going to disable the AFM as well.
GuruR7PLV: Congratulations on 230,000 miles. Great! I think your plan is the same plan I would have also since you replaced all the plugs and wires and validated good spark to all cylinders. I would re-check with each problem occurrence the scanner codes as they can change according to the actual error AT THAT TIME. In my case, I had more than one coming and going away on me. The OBDII scanner reads are a good troubleshooting tool. You may want to also examine very closely the wiring harness(s) to the each cylinder's coil pack and injector for any flakey intermittent connection. Gently pressing on the wiring harness and connections while the engine is running CORRECTLY (with no CEL or dash error icons) to re-induce the problem can be helpful to locate an intermittent problem. I also used this trick to fix my "now corrected" problem with the wiring harness to the throttle valve actuator detector assembly on my truck. Hope this helps.

I have a 2007 suburban flex fuel. Same issue. Stabilatrac flashing, check engine light flashing, and rough idle with a knocking sound. After coils, plugs and wires, come to find #1 intake valve was not moving at all. Took a Airhammer hammer to it lightly right over the puchrod and good as new.
My problem is I don't have a knocking sound or rapping sound. That's why I don't think mine is the lifter or push rod. I'm going to remove the valve cover on the driver's side(#1 cylinder side) just to verify but I'm still learning to the fuel injector. I have read every single post on here and several more sites.the mind boggling part is that so many people are having the same or similar issues with the same engine.i don't think it's the engine but the computer system to control it was grossly engineered. the AFM system needs to be disabled or removed all together in my opinion. then I think 98% of all problems will dissappear when the AFM is no longer on line, just my opinion of course
Redclayrunner answered 4 years ago
Well an update on my problem.checked the fuel injector, not the problem seemed to be working fine.removed the valve cover on the driver's side to find the intake valve not opening on #1 cylinder. If I'm not mistaken this is a regular lifter and NOT an AFM lifter. So I guess I'm tearing it down now. The inner spring is holding the rocker arm so it's not collapsed just not enough to move the valve open if I'm not mistaken. Oh well here it goes...
2017 1500. I had the same problem last night when the stabilitrack light came on and check engine flashed. All lasted about 15 seconds. After I got of the interstate I noticed a hard downshift. Getting nervous now. I’ve had 3 of these trucks the first was a ‘10 ran to 84k with no issues. The next was a ‘15 ran to 87k with no issues. The ‘17 the Catalytic converters stopped up right before the 80k mike emissions warranty was up or they would have cost probably $2,000 to replace and had to put in a new battery in it also. Has 115k on it now. They have been good trucks for me but one thing I have done is drove the absolute hell out of them when they’re new so if it was gonna tear up it would be under warranty. I thought I was gonna keep this one and pay it off but after reading some of this thread, I believe I’ll trade yet again. I think I would rather trade every two years or about 80k, lose $4k and stay in a new truck. I’m not about working on stuff. When I turn the key I expect it to run
Redclayrunner answered 4 years ago
I think all of these problems boil down to the Active Fuel Management system, well at least most of them. It made me feel I'll of people having problems with almost new vehicals but yet mine has 230,000 so I feel lucky to have gotten that out of it. GM should do something with all of the problems that are occurring. This is just one forum,I have seen it all over the Internet, same circumstances same.engine. My ultimate goal is to eliminate the AFM all together, replace the AFM lifters with regular ones and buy the normal push rods. From what I understand this will not allow this from happening. And also disable the AFM in the ecm as well.
Question for GuruR28S1. What number at GM did you call to get someone who gave a s89t? Can you post that number so people can call them. I'm still driving Blinky the 2008 Silverado with now 98,500 miles. I can keep the CE light off if I change synthetic oil at 3500 miles, drive it in 3 around town so all 8 cylinders are firing, run it hard on the interstate in OD. I'm sure #3 cylinder is probably still a little low on compression, but at high speeds I don't think it matters. Blinky takes extra care, but I've run the bitch for over 30,000 miles with this intermittant CE problem. Frequent oil changes, keeping all 8 cylinders firing, and using Mobil or some high octane gasoline. Blinky is susposed to be an E85 engine, but I think ethanol is part of our problems. Post phone number for GM please. JAF

well as im reading i have the same problem with my 2011 silverado Z71! GM knows this problem is occurring. I worked for a parts supplier and if you sent GM a bad part they were the 1st ones to bitch about it. something needs done about this issue.I have 106k easy miles on this vehicle . Guys on YouTube says the throttle body needs cleaned to fix the problem but the lifters going bad and the oil pressure fading isnt right so something needs done because these repairs arent cheap.

First recommendation is to get the error codes from the OBDII port below the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash. If you are getting an engine light then there will be one or more error codes. OBDII scanners are cheap now-a-days at Walmart, etc. They can help to identify sources of problems. When you get the code(s) report them to this forum for possible assistance. To my earlier post, I did use an OBDII code reader and am getting a P0304/P219B codes. I changed all spark plugs, coils, wires and the MAF sensor. I cleared the codes and now get P0300/P219B codes. My truck is driving but lugging and shifting hard. Taking to the dealership tomorrow and giving them the TSB 15-06-01-002F, unless I find something more up to date.
Have you cleaned the throttle body yet? That "butterfly valve" may be sticking if it has not ever been cleaned. It is located right on the front of the engine and is very easy to get to and remove for cleaning. Since you have changed the MAF sensor then you probably know this is in-line with the air flow into the engine and is next on that same air flow tube. Hopefully, this is helpful.
Just another tip here. After cleaning the throttle body, leave the cosmetic Vortec cover off the top of the engine. Slightly move forward the upper wiring harness that wraps around the top back of the engine on the passenger side, moving it away from the transmission filler tube. That harness contains the wires to the throttle body actuator and the injectors on the passenger side of the engine. I know it sounds crazy but when I did that to my 2010 5.3L Silverado truck it started running just fine. Moving that harness towards the front of the truck may help to alleviate an intermittent short circuit. Be sure to leave that Vortec cover OFF the engine because it pushes the harness back up against that transmission filler tube. If this solves the problem you can insulate the harness between the it and the filler tube and re-install the Vortec cover later.
Another thing to check, there famous for the bad ground cable off the battery to the block there crimped and become loose inside the cable, there is a variable timing solenoid behind the water pump, controlled by a magnet solenoid that engages it and changes your timing and oil delivery that works off of this ground the variable timing solenoid is mechanical with small oil ports that delivers the right amount to each side that become clogged easily hence not enough oil to cylinder #7 lifter collapse the traction control auto goes off anytime there is a shutter so this is common if your check engine light is flashing 9 times out of 10 you have a collapsed afm lifter i spent $97 at advance yesterday for new lifter and a head gasket and we did it in about 10 hours check your grounds!! and another note there is a gasket at the afm solenoid they can leak and cause problems as well ,, dont panic oils have detergents already top quality oil is a plus. 2011 silverado 5.3

Stabilitrack light, engine light, etc. When I shut the truck off and restart these issues go away and then will pop back up after I am driving for a little while. I am also now having an issue where if I leave my truck running in park for about 10 minutes and then go to drive the lights and chime, gauges go up and down, and the truck will run rough and be jumpy or not even run at all when I put it in to drive from park. I then can't start the truck back up and have to let it sit for about 10 minutes and try to start it again. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Likely cause Believed to be a throttle body issue with a recall. I took off work the following Monday and had the truck towed in to the dealership. I received a call from the dealership a couple hours later informing me they would perform the recall work but I needed a new engine and gave a price of about $4500 to $5500 to rebuild or replace the engine. Since there was only about 57000 miles on the truck, I expected warranty work but was told it was out of warranty based on the date. I called the original dealership where I bought it with only 11 miles on the dash and was told that day was the last day of the warranty. After explaining that to the local dealership, they still acted like they needed to speak to the GM to “help me out”, despite being told it was under warranty. They eventually fixed the truck but only replaced some damaged lifters, rather than rebuild or replace the engine as they said I needed. Since then the Service traction control light and service stability Raj lights would come on intermittently, for only a few minutes then shut off. Now the lights have came on and won’t turn off along with a flashing check engine light. A scan shows a misfire in cylinder 8 and after changing plugs and wires, there is no change. I’m fed up with GM and when this truck dies, presumably sooner than later, I’ll never buy another new or used Chevy product. Please add me to any potential class action suit. We are having the same problem with our 2013 Chevy Silverado 1500. Traction and stabilitrac light on, flashing engine light with rough idling. If there is still a law suit add us. Sarah62280@gmail.com
Same issue, 2015 Chevy Cruze, taking it to the shop next week this will be the fourth time in just a few short months that I've had to take it in for some sort of breakdown. This is my only vehicle and I'm still paying on it, this should not be happening on these newer cars. Add me to the lawsuit as well if one exists.
Please add me to the class action suit. 2015 GMC Yukon XL Denali. I am experiencing the same issues. I got a code p305 changed plugs, wires and coil pack. Ran well took to the dealership to get an oil change they reset the computer and it began to run terrible again. Email latoyatims@yahoo.com

Solution for my truck. 2013 silverado 4x4 z71. CEL,Stabilitrak, and traction control lights. Running very rough..occasional ticking. Towed it to the shop (independent) they told me #4 lifter had failed majorly and #7. And i needed to rebuild top of engine $4500 bucks, but said metal pribably in engine and really best to replace it for $6700. I parked the truck in yard for 4 months. The battery died (please keep reading) i jumped the truck off. Low and behold, it ran perfect!! All the light were gone ran perfect for 30 miles. I went home turned the truck off. I restarted the truck...all of the lights were back on, running rough and ticking..im thinking WTH. I disconnected the NEG battery cable drained the energy reconnected and started the truck. It ran perfect again!!!! Stut the truck off, then restarted all lights back on and running awful. Obviously it is not a mechanical problem, its electronics thats controling the AFM system....listen try disconnecting the neg terminal then restarting...long story cut short....i bought a Range bypass for AFM..my truck runs perfect...no engine rebuild...probably needs a new VLOM , bad solinoid or something...btw i did replace the small filter located in the VLOM just to make sure there was no sludge in there, before purchasing the Range bypass..not advertising for them here..there is another AFM bypass called diablo

Fixed. Knock on wood!!!!!!! Same exact problem. SAME. 2007 Suburban 1500 LT 4x4 5.3L 158,000 miles No AFM delete module was ever installed. Removed engine cover, Left it off. Looks like the wiring harness was crispy and cooked. Moved wiring harness away from spark plug wires on the starboard side of the engine (which were laying suspiciously right on top of the wires) Replaced Spark plug wires with Taylor 10.4mm pro race wires. Replaced the MAP (manifold air pressure) sensor located right on top of the intake manifold. Reset computer. Left the negative battery terminal off for 10 minutes. Fixed..... no warningLights after an hour test drive in the city and open road, runs really smooth. so far........ My theory is that it seems like the plug wires were going bad and degrading. Seems like the wiring harness laying virtually on top of the old spark plug wires may have been causing some electrostatic discharge ESD into the wiring harness intermittently. Confusing the ECM??? I didn’t pull the plugs at all. The MAP sensor was also degraded and made a big difference in throttle response. Cleaning the throttle body helped a little but didn’t fix the problem. Hope this helps someone.
Guru9938Z1: I believe your fix worked because you moved the wiring harness. I had a very similar issue. Replacing the engine cover would bring the problem back because it re- positioned the harness to the same location that caused the short circuit to occur to the transmission dip stick tube which vibrated and rubbed the insulation right off one of those wiring harness wires. If you put the cover back on and the problem come back, look very closely at your wiring harness where it touches the transmission dip stick tube. Insulate it and the problem will never come back again (if the same issue as mine was). See my posts on this by searching my handle, exCompaqr.
Anyone ever get an actual answer or fix to this? My bosses 2012 Yukon Denali is having the same issues, I’ve replace wires and plugs, switched coil packs to see if misfire moves. Was rechecking gap on spark plugs and noticed the plug in cylinder 1 had a lot of carbon build up. The dealership told him it’s a bad lifter and wanted $4,100 if it’s just lifters, and like $5000 if the cam was damaged. My only concern is, from my understanding on start up and idle it’s running on all 8 cylinders. So if it’s a bad lifter why would it only become “stuck/broke” after the stabiltrak and traction control light and misfire start occurring? Is it not a bad lifter and maybe a spark knock from the carbon build up? The picture is the plug from 1 & 2 changed the same day. These plugs only have about 40 mins of use on them, and you can see the build up on the plug from sensor 1

Soluntion for my truck continued. Cel, stabilitrak light, traction control light..running rough lifter tick. 13 silverado 5.3l..was told bad lifter #4 #7.....$4500 to repair or 7k new engine...i tried replacing plugs, clean throttle body, replace oil filter in Vlom..nothing worked...i let truck sit for months, battery went dead..jumped it off and truck ran fine..shut truck off and problems started again...I decided to disconnect neg battery terminal drain energy from truck turning headlights off and on..reconnected terminal started truck and it ran fine for 30 miles. Repeated this several times same result. So i think it is electronics not mechanical, probably solinoid in Vlom...MY SOLUNTION for my truck..bought a range and plugged in under steering wheel, Range makes truck run v8 all the time..3000 miles later and its still running fine...TRY DISCONNECTING NEG BATTERY TERMINAL. Then restart vehicle..if it runs good, then you may have same problem i had..i bought a range plug in..although some folls may delete AFM ..hope this helps someone

My truck just quit- 2011 Chevy Silverado 1500. 5.3L Brand new tires, owned for seven months almost to the day. What I now know is a “sticky lifter” (sound apparent while idling) may have caused it to fail- while driving. Traction and stabilitrac lights came on, shut off mid flight, coasted to a halt, would not start again. If there is a lawsuit, please add klattaclarinet@yahoo.com - Kristian Latta.
2010 GMC Sierra 5.3 L. Stabilitrak censor and then immediately after the engine is misfiring. Dealership says the piston rings are wearing out. I am aware there is class actions accusing General Motors if knowing about this oil consumption problem causing access oil in the engine ruining the spark plugs and piston rings. Does anyone know of any fixes to this? Folmar12@gmail.com

Everyone's answer :: I have had this problem and it is fouling plugs from the 4 6 8 BS.. when the plugs do not fire they foul. I also had the oil use problem and the exhaust sensor problem and all the other problems with this motor.. I have spent more on repairs than when I bought it new... THE ANSWER a company called Range makes an adaptor that fits in the scanner port and bypasses the controls to keep the motor on 8 all the time. For less than $300 I could have saved thousands by buying this piece earlier. The dealers do not sell it so you have to buy it online..
Does GM (Chevrolet) have a firmware code update to enable deletion of AFM or totally delete AFM? That would solve these issues and is an easy solution for GM and their customers.

This have been happening to my husband 2014 Chevy taveras of and for a few months have taken it to garage and they say there no problem showing up and nothing they can do well tonight it happened in a busy intersection scared the shit out of me something needs to be done before someone gets killed
Solution for my 2010 Chevy Silverado I had my truck go into low power mode in the middle of the highway, dropping me right down to 30 or 40km. It would ding at me and the service stabilitrak light would come on.And then it would have a rough idle. This ended up being the throttle body sensor. This was over a year ago so I don’t remember what make and years of vehicles it is but there is a “special policy” and I had the dealership do mine free of charge. Worth a search to find out if your vehicle is a part of the special policy and to get a new throttle body sensor, it worked for me.
Hello all, is it to late to get in on the class action law suit? 2011 Silverado, same issue as most of the above, rlegg01@gmail.com Jacoblegg80@gmail.com
HELLO ADD MY NAME AS WELL JGREEN@ALLSERVINDUSTRIAL.COM
Same here. Typical plugs, wires, coil didn't work. Looking into riser issue or injector. P0307
Any progress on the suit? destinytee@live.com Just broke down in my 2010 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3 on the interstate after the service traction control and service stabiltrak came on
Please add me to lawsuit. Having exactly the same problem with numerous fixes and thousands of dollars that didn’t work. 2008 Suburban 1500 LS. kklott14@icloud.com
It seems like the problem could be caused by a set of necessary but not individually sufficient conditions. The problem goes away for some after replacing enough of those conditions to stop triggering the event. For me, I started with the brake light control switch as I read in other forums. It worked for about a month, but then it started happening again. I replaced the battery and then the spark plugs and wires, both with the same temporary results. Finally, it got so bad that I just replaced the fuel injection electronic throttle body (ETB) assembly even though my old one (shown in image) didn't look damaged or even dirty at all. WOW! That did it! Once the new idle position was reset, my truck has never run smoother. It only takes about 10 minutes with a regular bit screw driver for the hose clamps and a 10mm for the battery and four bolts around the assembly. I probably only needed the control module, but I replaced the entire thing just to be safe. Good luck!
Looks like I'm having the same issues. 2011 LTZ Chevy Avalanche with 148,000 miles. Service stabiltrak light came on, check engine light flashing. Rough idle. Hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Taking it in to see what the problem is. Check back for updates. I may want to be added to the lawsuit.
JPG1972: They may want you to replace the engine or do an extensive engine repair (many dollars). Pull the battery cable off the battery for 20 minutes and replace it on the battery. If your vehicle runs better for at least a little while, and the problem comes back, then read all the posts on this web site, There are several fixes for this problem you are experiencing. You may have lots of reading to do which may help you to save thousands of dollars.

I hope this helps some, 2014 LTZ 5.3 77K miles. I left my house today and Yatzi. Check engine started flashing, traction control light came on and the engine started operating poorly like it wasn’t firing on all cylinders, cruise control stopped working. Once I made it back home I also noticed remote start was not working. This is my only vehicle so I had to fix and after reading through this thread I was very disheartened to say the least. I limped the vehicle over to Auto zone with the idea that I would start with spark plugs. The autozone rep after I described what was going on volunteered to put the code reader on it. The only code he got was #5 misfiring. I was not comfortable with that since I had read this complete thread but alas I bought new high spark plugs and was hoping for the best. I started on the driver side and while pulling spark plug wires noticed that the #5 wire after I pulled from spark the coil side kinda almost fell off and after inspecting noticed that it was very corroded and extremely worn and the spark plug was very worn. I went back and purchased new wires and just for problem solving purposes replaced just that plug and wire. I started the PU and noticed immediately that the engine was idling better. I went ahead and replaced all plugs and wires since I bought them. All plugs looked a little worn and all of the other wires looked good. I pulled negative battery cable for 20 minutes and then reattached. Started the vehicle and let idle for 2 minutes and then drove around for another 20 minutes and all is normal in fact it is better because the shifting is smoother then it has been in a couple of years. My thought is the plug wire has been bad for a while. I have had no issues with this vehicle prior to this event. Total cost was $123 for plugs and wires
The cause of the problem for me was the stock ETB. Scroll up (7 months ago) for the description. My truck has never run smoother with no problems since.
