Has anyone ever had to time a 2006-2010 VW Passat with a 2.0t tsi  engine
and done it themselves, or know of anyone who has? I have a few questions!

If you are talking (valve) timing belt, it's more complex than explaining it here. Check on YouTube for a hands on video. This might be an interference engine and will be damaged if done wrong. Replace water pump while you have it apart. Some replacement belts come with timing marks and it helps if no one has rotated the engine during disassembly. At 100K miles these belts can be inspected through a port under the crankshaft pulley. Have fun.
