Silverado afm system

Asked by Guru9DK463 Nov 11, 2020 at 12:32 AM about the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 1LT Crew Cab RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Has anyone got a definitive answer to whats going on with
chevys afm system? Been working om my own vehicles
forever and i cant seem to figure out what makes this
trigger codes on my truck. Truck shakes,  engine light
blinks then stabilty control system light comes on. So many
variables everyone has come up with. I dont wanna spend a
fortune replacing parts until i find out the correct problem.
Oh and my transmission wont shift into gear unless i let go
of the accelerater???
Tired of this,bs..Chevy you disgrace the old reputation you
once had.

Personal opinion, to each his own, but that sounds like a normal chevy to me. Good luck getting it figured out

On a note in regards to the issue at hand what codes is it throwing? Looking into the afm system I found that the afm lifters have been known to fail quite commonly, generally due to oil pressure issues or control issues. I don't know how you would go about testing it though.

You are over your head on this so take it to the shop. I agree with "Ford". Chevy in the last 10 to 15 years have been hit or miss.

It could be several things. The OBDII codes if you have a reader/scanner (cheap at Walmart, etc.) will help to identify where to investigate. I'll just share with you what fixed my issue which was very similar to yours. I pulled off the Vortec cover and left it off the top of the engine. I then pulled the electronic wiring harness that is routed around the top of the engine forward about an inch. Put a tie wrap around it to hold it there. Problem solved. (May have to remove the battery cable to reset the computer after doing this.) Sounds crazy, but worked for me.
