shifter issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ok so I park the van and get out, I get back in and the shifter is stuck in the park position but wont start. I notice that the light was saying I was in reverse. so after a few minutes of playing with it I got it to register as neutral and I used the emergency release button to get the shifter out of the park position so I could drive. Now I have no park or reverse. The shofter is in the park position but registering as neutral. I can drive the van as long as I use the emergency release to get the shifter to move but I have no reverse or park. When its in drive the van shifts perfect thru all gears. I don't have the money to put it in a shop. can someone point me in the right direction as to whats wrong
