I have a 2010 535i and have been told that problems arise at 100,00 miles. If this is the case, what should I be looking to do?

Get rid of it before it devours all your money.
Why? What problems is the answer I need.
You probably have a M54 engine in your car. The main problem is the VANOS timing assembly. If it goes it will screw everything, timing chain, the valves out of sync, will bounce valves and the head will need to be rebuilt, etc. etc. By 100,000, may be even before, replace or rebuild the VANOS tImeing assembly. On the M54 it should not be very difficult, not much more than replacing the valve cover gasket. Once you get the cover off, the assembly should basically just pull off the front of the cam shafts. They should only go on one way as long as everything is lined up. After that keep up with the regular maintenance and you probably will not have any more problems than any other manufacturer. Just remember it is BMW, dealers are expensive, authorized repair centers aren't much less unless they will allow you to provide the parts. Shop around you can get parts at a reasonable cost as long as you don't allow the repair centers to buy them for you.
