Check Engine Light comes on and after a while or day goes off.

Asked by Kota10680 May 07, 2021 at 12:33 PM about the 2011 Chevrolet Traverse 1LT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My check engine light comes on steady. Went to have code read and it
comes up as P008, however the light was on for a day and a half. I stopped
at the post office right after having the code read and when I started the car
up there was no more check engine light.
Super confused on this one. Could this just be a faulty sensor? I have a
129,000 on my traverse.

Definelty a sensor detecting an issue. P008 is not a valid code. OBDii codes are 4 digits, so as an example P0300. Scan for the codes again.

Even though the check engine light went off the trouble code is still in the computer (PCM) for 60 ignition cycles. If the PCM doesn't see the fault for 3 consecutive ignition cycles the light will go off but the code is still in there. Hope that helps! Jim
