Follow the big red wire from the battery. They generally hook to the starter solenoid.
tenspeed apparently does not know that BMW batteries are located in the boot/trunk well. Hahaha! Good advice otherwise. From below, look to the passenger side, like papa said, by the exhaust manifold.

With a set of ramps and some patience, and minimum skills, you should be looking at 30 minutes.
