Check Engine, flashing cruise, Subaru Forester Fix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I see many posts that have this issue and a lot of
unsolved attempts to repair. Fortunately I figured out
what the issue for mine was without wasting hundreds
and maybe it can help. First I thought maybe I just
needed a new gas cap so i purchased one and reset
my dash and it still would trigger the lights. From there
I discovered its not the gas cap itself but the way its
screwed in. To fix the issue, first clear the dash lights
and when you screw on your gas cap make sure to put
weight into it when tightening because what was
occuring with mine with both caps is it would start
clicking like its locked tight but not actually sealed but
if you push into it, youll find theres an inch or 2 more
you can tighten it. You must do it every time so it
actually seals. The only time my lights trigger is when i
rush and dont tighten it fully. So easy to overlook this,
not sure if any one else will benefit but it helped me.
