2001 VW Passat ABS and Break Light

My VW Passat ABS light came on and Break Light was flashing while I was driving. What could cause this and is it fixable?

Probably a faulty wiring harness Have the abs control box checked out and make sure there is not any fried or frayed wiring. Also check your bulbs some times a filament can break and link up to the filament below it and cause the same issue.

if the abs and brake light is on its most likely the wheel speed sensors, had one last week with the same problem. you need to have the vehicle diagnose to see witch one to replace. they call it the wheel speed sensor but its a pick up just above the abs ring.

I would like to know if such issue (ABS light) occurs on the dashboard, would it cause the car to totally shut off ?
