Have Subaru Forrester Transmissions improved since 2012

Asked by GRasks Nov 30, 2017 at 07:14 PM about the 2012 Subaru Forester 2.5X

Question type: General

I like my 2012 Forrester but the automatic transmission is very unresponsive.
For example on the highway when changing lanes, there is a big latency
between the time I push on the accelerator and the time I feel the engine take
off.  Are the 2015 or 2016 transmissions any better?

If I were you I would complain to Subaru and maybe they will do something about your transmission.

I don't know about your issue, but I hear Subaru is one of the only companies that makes a decent CVT, however, CVT's are infamous for exactly the issue you're having, so I think your best bet may be to go with a manual transmission.

It's really more about which 2.5i motor you have. The older SOHC EA25, although using a somewhat-variable cam, could not provide as much torque for mid-rpm passing as the newer FB DOHC motor. They spec nearly identically, but it's clear that the newer iteration has stronger drivability...and nets +1mpg to boot. I don't when the FB25 debuted in the Forester; it was 2013 for the Legacy/OB.
