All I know is that their is a safety feature including : automatic Dimming Inside Rearview Mirror...sides, i am not familiar with, has anything been placed on the dashboard? anywhere that potentially could be blocking a sensor? and 2012, don't hesitate to return/ or call a dealership, buying such a vehicle, as I in my Rover, have never had a problem getting information/assistance from a dealership...there is no reason for you to know, unless you read the entire manual/handbook which probably has it in there...

Your 2012 is still under factory warranty. Take it to the dealer and do not allow them to charge you any amount of money. John is correct, it's an automatic feature that I for one would disable, unless that would void the warranty . I prefer to do it myself, and John has a very good question: if you put a dash-cover on it make sure it is not blocking the little "eye" or it will think it's night all the time
