My oil is dripping from my oil filter

Asked by Philip Feb 13, 2015 at 05:12 PM about the 2000 Dodge Stratus SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I drive a 2000 dodge stratus.  I was driving
in the morning to work and I think I ran over
something.  I get into my car and drive it
home and notice the oil light was flickering
on and off and then stayed on when I
arrived home.  I looked under my car and
saw a small puddle of oil under my oil filter
and then checked my oil level and there
was no level.  Is this something  where I
need to get a new filter or did maybe
something get totally screwed up.

You need to identify where the leak is coming from. Get under the car an try to see if the filter has a puncture or is misplaced. If not, take a look around, look for any damage on the oil pan. If you still cannot see where it's coming from: clean the filter and the pan(easier to see leaks), add oil, get the engine running and get under the car to see where it's coming from. Don't forget to secure the car properly before going under it (ramps+jack stands or jack + jack stands)
