2013 VW Beetle Convertible Top Warning Light

I have a 2013 VW Beetle Convertible. The top works fine, but the warning
light turns on stating that the top is open, even when closed. The motor
continues to purr, even after the roof opens or closes completely. It's not
recognizing that the top is closed. The warning rings for about 30 seconds
each time that I exceed 30 MPH. THe dealer wants $650 for a new motor
and $200 for installation. How do I fix this on my own?

Mine does the same thing- only now the top is starting to struggle coming up and down

Try to do a manual re-set following exactly the directions in the owner's manual. Worked for me. In other words, put your top down and up exactly as it says to do. On my bug, I was not engaging the emergency brake and when I did, it fixed it. The dealer said I did a "manual re- set".
