Wheel bearing failure, esp rear, is common on Subies for generations...as well many
modern AWD vehicles. Recent Subies use an integrated bearing-hub assy, so labor is
only 0.75-1.5hrs, depending upon rust level. Part cost is $50-125 depending upon source.
The dealer is of course able to only sell you the inflated cost OE one, and knocking you a
full 2+hrs for labor. These jobs are so common that indy wrenches can save get it done for
as little as $200. They should know to never pound nor over-torque the new assy and not
break the ABS sensor cable. Expect the opposite side to follow in 1-5 years. The fronts
are more durable, mysteriously, given they're the same duty rating and mass. TSG/B
