Is it not opening with the key or the the opener at the drivers seat?

The wiring harness is tight and the wires break in the trunk. Open the trunk using your emergency latch and solder the wires back together on the right side of your trunk. This will fix your open switch as well as the third brake light

Is there a way to replace the entire wire assembly? All of the wires have cracked or completely separated and I'm not having good luck getting them sliced together.

Most auto's have separate junction areas that do un-plug from the main wire harness. Like engine harness, Cabin harness, Rear/trunk harness ect. Find where yours is and replace it.

I googled looking for an answer to the trunk on my 2014 Focus not opening and this popped up first. I opened the trunk from inside the car, looked at the right side and there was the broken wire staring right at me. A little wire cut and splice and all is well again. Thanks

Glad you located the broken wire, it seems to be a issue common with this model.

I will NEVER buy another FORD!!. They are nothing more than over complicated junk and they never own up to The blunders they let loose on the public. My 2014 focus has 2 awaiting recall appts. And now no trunk function and no release unless you crawl in the trunk thru the backseat.peice of Shit car..

If you can get in the trunk, it is most likely the wire. Pop the rear right panel and look for the broken wire. Twist the wire together, wrap it with electrical tape and it should work again

Someone suggested getting an electrical wire to the positive battery terminal and the other to the trunk button release touch the + or - on the button and see if it pops open. ( Be careful not to touch any metal in the car because you can do damage)

GuruVHHT2 had it right. Found the crushed wires, (caused by the harness catching in the trunks return spring). After the splice repair, I added a thicker foam over-wrap to keep the wires from being caught in the spring.

To open the trunk, Ford stupidly places the pull levers deep inside the trunk to pull the 2 back seats down. Take a used broom handle and a old fork. Bend the inner 2 metal pieces and tape fork to end of stick. You need to carefully take off side trim where the back door closes. Take a flashlight and with the fork on the stick push the lever out. The seat will pull down. Push the lever on the other side and the other back seat will pull down. Then with a flat screwdriver, you need to work the trunk lock open. It can be be many problems, from a fuse, to wires, a short, bad door lock connection etc. Move the lever near the side trim to open back seat, until you locate and fix the problem.

I'm having the same problem with the wiring cutting in half right there, does anyone have or know what wire is what, just to prevent cross wiring something.

I had the cut wire issue, but I fixed that. Now the remote only works intermittently. It's not a fuse or remote battery. The trunk switch on the dash now works every time. But the remote for both the trunk and doors will work sometimes but will fail frequently. Any other wires prone to breakage or bad grounds that anyone is aware of?

What gauge is wire is the black with white stripe? Had to trim it and now it's too short. 14 gauge??
