Cylinder 2 misfire
Asked by Mattackbda Jun 28, 2018 at 07:20 PM about the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan R/T FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Car keeps tripping cylinder misfire after having tune
up, plugs, wires & coil replace. Mechanic did
compression test which came back fine as well as
switched out fuel injector to make sure that wasn’t
the problem as well. Vehicle still idles rough, but is
fine when you accelerate.

Where is cylinder #2 located in a 2013 Dodge Grand mini van located and cost to repair it?
#2 is the front bank of cylinders closest to the front of the car. Counting #2 from the passenger side, # 4 then # 6 on driver side closest to the battery.
I have a similar issue with cylinder 1 (P0301). I had the battery and coil switched to another cylinder. The check engine is still coding on cylinder 1. I don't really know what to try next.
I have the same issue coil 1 changed the coil spark plug. Now it turns over but won’t start. Mechanic can’t even figure out what’s wrong with it.
Having the same problem of cylinder #2 misfire on my 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan r/t. Only 62k miles, changed plugs and coil, mechanic says it’s a engine compression thing. He was very surprised it is happening on such a new car.
I had the same issue on cylinder 1. We moved the coil and plugs to another cylinder. We erased the memory and i drove a week with my car and cylinder 1 coded again. No one found out what the issue was. But i had people working on it 3 times and the car actually never lost any power. I did not have a code for the last 3 months. I saw a video on you tube about a wire being to close to a source of heat as a possible cause (but for another type of car). For now i assume that maybe that was the issue since i asked them to check for that. Another assumption that i have is that this may be an electronic issue. I had a code about my airbag being problematic few weeks ago. That code also disappeared. For now i keep driving my van as it is.
I had the same issue I changed all my spark plugs it turned out being my fuel injector got it changed no issues since
Collapsed lash adjusters on any particular cylinder will cause a misfire. Ive repaired several where coil, plug, and injector swapping didnt fix issue, and compression and leakdown were good. Replace the intake and exhaust lash adjusters and rockers for that cylinder and re check.
up to 2016 it is covered under warranty 100000 miles or 6 years.
I have a 2017 Grand Caravan with46k miles. Obviously an issue and back ordered. Have had a rental for over a month
well i just paid off my 2013 after 6 years and now the intermittent misfire stays on, 50k miles seems ridiculous
My 2016 having the same issue and it seems to be a bad cylinder head. We have changed the coil and plug, but that didnt help. Apparently the #2 cylinder head is prone to this problem. Chrysler tells me that it is my problem, and they will not help with the $2700 repair (68,000 miles). I have asked to speak with someone further up the chain of command at Chrysler. Hopefully this helps......... if they offer me no help, I will certainly never purchase another mopar product.
having the same problem with my 2008 grand caravan with 109k 4.0 ... put new crankshaft sensor new plugs and swaped coil going to try fuel injecter cleaner and if that dont work going to change out #2 injecter

I had a 2016 with p0301 set. A coil fixed my issue however, after reading some of these complaints I would be pretty certain their problems in the valve seats/ cylinder head. Been engine tech for 20 years, seen many failed valves still allow good readings when performing static compression tests.
WHILE DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHEN I CAME ON. THE ENGINE IDLE WAS ROUGH. I CHECKED THE CODE MISFIRE IN CYLINDER #2. I HAD THE SPARK PLUGS CHANGED AND STILL IDLED ROUGH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND FOUND DEFECTIVE VALVE GUIDE IN CYLINDER. HE STATED THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS ENGINE HE SAID COMPRESSION ISSUE! IT KNLY HAS 79k MILES! THERE IS NI RECALL AS OF YET
2017 Caravan. Changed plug, coil and injector and told it is a factory compression fault and I have to pay to have it fixed, few thousand. Loses power on acceleration and almost caused me to be rear ended. Reported it to www.SaferCar.Gov as a recall issue and recommend everyone here report it also.
Have a 2016 started javing problems with a clicking noise check my oil it was good level, then took it to a mechanic said it sounds like a lifter, then light came on the code was for a o2 censor, changed that few days later engine light came on, this time my acceleration was rough felt like I was losing power up hills took it back to shop read code said misfire in coil 6 replaced that, got a tune up new spark plugs, 1 coil a week later putting again went back need to change # 3 coil and spark plug and now my #3 cylinder compression is 50%psi meaning the engine is no GOOD! How when its a 2016 kept up on my maintance bought the car used 2017 dec. now its breaking down! I have to many problem with this 2016 anybody having these issues
Rough idle and P0304 (misfire cylinder 4) on 2012 Town & Country with 40k miles. Changed the plug and coil pack and P0304 came back after about 50 miles. Found a Chrysler Bulletin NUMBER: 09-002-14 REV. B GROUP: Engine DATE: December 15, 2014. Took the van AND the bulletin to local Chrysler dealer last week. They did a compression check and saw cylinder 4 had 90 PSI but a leak down of 85%. Chrysler replaced the front cylinder head per the bulletin (extended warranty of 10 years/ 150K miles). I picked the van up earlier this week and it runs perfect so far. $0.00 out of pocket.

2018 Dodge Grand Caravan with 92,000 miles - bought used at 57,000 miles. The van was rental in FL - maintenance records not provided when I bought from dealership who picked up this van at auction. Such a great deal! Price was $2000 below market value, so I bit. Now it has check engine light on all the time. Diagnostic Code says misfire on cylinder 2. Local shop says $1700 - 2500 to machine the heads (do both 2 and opposite 5 cylinder) and will be like new. Just need to rent a car for the week it will take and thats $300. OR I called Chrysler/Dodge customer service on 1-800-423-6343 and call center in FL took down all my info and because of the high miles, they said no assistance. I talked to the service manager at Dodge Dealership and he says they want to look at van but likely repair will start at $2500 and they will just replace the heads and other parts. They said they see these vans with well over 200,000 miles and one over 300,000 miles. Better to fix especially if you love the van and I do. If I do nothing, the engine could be ruined, costing over $5k. I'm going to go with my local shop, Chet's Auto Service and get the best repair value for my used, high mileage van. Did the homework.
Recenly i buy a van 2019 with the same error code and 41000 miles , suppost to has waranty when i buy and the dealer say not return now and warranty is not cover, what can i do for this issue.?

Camshaft has been an issue with 3.3 and 3.8 . Even being worn a little will give a misfire. A valve not opening will falsely give you good compression. Remove valve covers and make sure the valves are working correctly.

I am so over this whole 2013 dodge caravan of mine. I was the one who spent the money to fix the head for cylinder two and here we are still having issues six months later. I keep getting cylinder five misfire and cylinder two misfire. My compression is good and of course no one knows what it could be after trying everything and breaking my poor pocket. I am so frustrated and wish i could just figure it out.
It was a nightmare trying to find out which vehicles were covered by the warranty but I found this email address somewhere and they were the most direct way to get an answer. Include your VIN and cylinder head info and ask if yours is covered dodgecustomercare@fcagroup.com Sorry I cannot find anything more useful

I had the same issue. 2017 Grand Caravan GT, 79,000 miles. replaced spark plugs, coil and fuel injector. none fixed the issue. Took it to dealer, found a burnt exhaust valve. Needed a new cylinder head and valve. cost was $2,700 USD. Unfortunately, this seems to be a very commom problem with these Dodge vehicles.

to Louanne720. I also bought a 2018 that was a rental in Florida. I purchased with 36,000 miles and we are currently at 80,000 miles. Had the same issue with ingnition module 2. Now we have to get the cylinder head repaired as well. We were told $3,500. I luckily purchased the extended warranty. Hoping it will only cost my $100 deductible. This is 10/12/2022
I'm in the middle of this same problem with my 2017 caravan... cylinder #2 misfire. Here's something I found that nobody has seemed to mention: where the spark plug seats in the cylinder it looks chipped or corroded, so the spark plug does not seal and gases escape, thus the misfire. I've got a guy looking into it for me and I will report back what happens

Is there a way for us to file complaints against the Dodge Caravan? They need to do a recall on the cylinder heads and valve problems!! I have a 2016 and at 100,000 miles have the same issue as most of you. I have a cylinder 2 misfire and the mechanic thinks it is a valve issue or cylinder head. It does fine on the highway but drives rough in town and low rpm. The mechanic says I need to take it to a dodge dealer to fix it and will it most likely cost thousands!! I will never buy a Dodge again!! I still owe 5000 on it too.
