car with keyless ignition won't shut off
Asked by Mark Jun 26, 2020 at 09:02 PM about the 2015 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
our 2015 Sante Fe suddenly won't shut off the electronics in the system. the
engine will shut off, but the car won't shut down beyond the AC setting. it gives
a notification that the car needs to be put in Park to shut off, even though it's
already in Park...

Perhaps this is a clue. There should be a switch that is triggered when it is in park. The switch may be broken or out of adjustment.
I would love to know what you did to fix it Mark. Our 2015 Sante Fe Sport is doing the exact same thing. Engine shuts down but the electronics doesn't. Says it is not in park...but it is.
I am having the same issue with my 2016 Santa Fe. Taking it to the dealership tomorrow and see what they say.

my 2017 Santa fe support with 57000 miles just started doing this along with other computer related issues like locking the car even with the key fob in it, the put in park warning when it is in park, intermittent (since day one) loss of screen, Navi, radio controls unless the car is stopped, turned off then restarted. Love it for the past 3yrs, till this stuff started harrowing.

Did anyone find a solution to this? Our 2015 is doing the same thing. The dealership is backed up for over two months.

I am dealing with the same problem. 2015 Santa Fe. I would jiggle the shift nob and this would usually solve the issue but now that will not work either.
I work in a very reputable shop in Blue Springs MO. I have a 2013 Santa Fe in the shop right now with the same issue. I found a TSB on this exact issue and it states to replace shifter assembly. Replaced shifter assembly and it fixed the problem. Posting here in hopes it helps some of yall get your rides back on the road.
Same issue with my 2015 Santa Fe. Shifter seemed to be in park. Engine would turn off but car would act like it was still in gear. Accessories all still on making it so you really can’t just walk away. Turned out to be the shifter knob. It has a silver trigger that you squeeze to change gears and that component broke internally. Couldn’t really tell it was broken. To remove it, put it in neutral and pull straight up, the whole knob and boot come off (takes some effort). It still works and can be driven by pressing the exposed plastic center into the metal shaft until you order a replacement. $140 from the dealer, $39 on ebay.

This happened to us and I was able to fix the issue myself by watching this video on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQYjfEncN0g I just used a toothpick to dig out the broken spring piece in the gear shaft. Now the car goes into park and can turn off. It’s been a week now and no issues with the gear. I decided I won’t even bring it to the garage for replacement as the spring in a new piece could break again and cause the same issue.
