runing hot

There are several things that can make a car run hot. You need to determine which part of the cooling system is not doing it's job. The first thing to check is the coolant level. Open the coolant cap and see if the radiator and coolant reservoir are full (be sure to check both if the car has a separate radiator cap). If the coolant is not full, then you need to pressure test the cooling system to find the source of the leak. If the coolant is full, the next thing that you need to check is the function of the radiator cooling fan. The easiest way to do this is to start the engine and turn on the A/C. If the fan is working, it should cycle on and off (or stay on constantly) while the A/C is on. If it is not working, I can tell you how to find the problem, or take it to a mechanic. If these 2 items both check OK, it could be the water pump or an electrical problem with the coolant temperature sensor. If that is the case, you will probably need to take it to a professional mechanic for further diagnosis. Seth (ASE Certified Master Auto Technician)
good reply seth, i agree but have some to add- dont just check coolant level for leaks but also for particles in your coolant- could mean buster water pump. also check you belts- as your pump is belt driven- hows the pulley? should be turning w/ no strain. i hope you know enough to cahnge your coolant every 2 years as coolant doesnt last forever- your car is 8 have you ever done it? (not trying to be an ass just trying to help). hopefully this helps you. good luck! marissa Also ASE certfied tech
