The trunk to my Honda Accord 2001 was broken into. But they only stole the key cylinder from the trunk key hole. I am suspecting their intent is to use it to model a key so they can come another day and simply open my car door and drive away. Has anyone heard of this being done by car thieves? I just went and got a CLUB tonight as a short term measure.

That would at best give them a 'valet key,' since it wouldn't have the proper programming to run the car for very long at all. Maybe that wasn't their intent however, they might have used a slide hammer to rip the lock cylinder out thinking it would get them into the trunk only the trunk didn't open and they were thwarted from stealing anything inside it. However a club is a good idea.

Making a key from your stolen lock cylinder is just too much movie and TV bs. Just replace your lock cylinder and don't worry about it.

Update guys. Bought a club last night put it on the car. Work up this morning and found that all four doors to my car was unlocked, the club was missing and flooring on the passenger side of car was pulled off, with the OBD plugged all pulled out. I called the police right after-- made a report and they mentioned that in the town next to mine (levittown, PA) another Honda Accord was also stolen. As I await for the tow trunk to come and take me to a mechanic, I am suspecting that these are professional car thieves who are using some kind of high tech thief device that connects to the OBD to "hack into my car." http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/crime-wave- sweeping-nation-car-5113289 That may explain all the activity on the passenger side. Anyway, I will soon find out.

I tried the link but not working, I get an error message. I guess we were way off on this one! I should have told you that the club is a waste of money, they are worthless. As to the rest of it, I am very shocked. All I can guess is that your 01 Accord must have some valuable parts in it that are in high demand, because I would think it is much easier to just steal te entire car. Please keep us all posted on anything else you learn.
