99 Ford Expedition 5.4 - Engine runs okay, but drives like the brakes are on. Very sluggish

Asked by dluzader Feb 18, 2014 at 10:01 PM about the 1999 Ford Expedition 4 Dr Eddie Bauer 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I hear a whinning sound from the front while driving and feels like something is holding it
back. ( like the brakes are applied ) I have had a new transfer case installed about a year
ago. Never had any transmission problems. Anybody got any ideas? I spent alot of
money replacing ignition coils and spark plugs. So, the  engine seems to run fine. I think
it is a problem in the drive train.

Have you made sure that the brakes are not dragging? it could be that the pistons are not returning and causing the disk to drag. After driving for awhile, stop and see if the front disk are hot. BE CAREFUL AND DO NOT BURN YOURSELF. If they are hot, it could be a bad master cylinder or wheel caliper.

Thank you for your answer, but I found out another ignition coil went bad. I am having all them replaced. I think that is my problem.

Glad you found the problem. I had a coil go out on my infinity and it took me awhile to figure it out too.
