There's a lot of other things that can cause play in the steering before resorting to replacing the rack and pinion. It might be something simple like the tie rod ends. If you're not doing the work yourself, then take it in to an alignment shop and have them inspect the steering and suspension components. For the door controls, it might be a fuse, although those tend to have other items on the same fuse that would also be out, in your case it might be the switch module. You'll have to troubleshoot, no point in guessing what's wrong.
