Asked by Alme Mar 06, 2019 at 11:49 AM about the 2005 Lincoln Navigator Luxury 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Why is my car shaking in drive and accelleration?
Ive replaced alternator because it was
overcharging and coil packs all 8. Still doing it even
with a new alternator. Replaced 3 more coil packs
that started to misfire and its doing it yet again!
Help. Its fine in park.

Your car doesnt have much load at idle, put it in gear and its working against the transmission.. ignition faults are easier to detect this way so an easy method is to drop it into drive and hold the brake while applying gas, techs can see primary and secondary problems alot easier.. may not be coil related directly but low current to some of the coils, or lean misfires from bad/restricted injectors,/low fuel pressure, cld be a dirty/faulty mass air flow sensor. Thats why diagnostics are important bc its not always as simple as just throwing a coil in it
