So, tonight as I was driving home on the highway, my steering wheel suddenly got tight, my brake light and battery light came on, followed shortly by a dull pop and the check engine light. My temp gauge also shot up all the way. I managed to make it to my exit, where i discovered that my brakes were fine, but i could barely get my steering wheel to turn. Came to a light, stopped, and upon acceleration, the car just bucked its way down the road till i had to yank the wheel again to get it into my parking space. Um... what the hell just happened? Cause I'm broke.

Certainly can't improve on that answer. Except to say if you are broke, like most of us, you are talking $10 or so to fix.... for something that could have ruined your car, consider yourself lucky
If the serpentine belt just came off, that's a $10 fix. If it broke, then you're looking at $200 or more, depending on labor charges. Those things aren't easy to put on.

Same thing happened to mine just now. But I turned off the car and turned it back on and it was fine. Any thought on why it didn't Happen again ?
I just had the same thing happen to me! My father n law and his brother looked at it and they said it was a pulley that wasnt spining but i have a 2007 Volkswagen jetta
Serpentine belt on a 2005 Altima . . . under $20 for the belt and less than a fifteen minute job. Any back yard mechanic can do it.
