I have a 2004 Oldsmoblie Alero, 2.2l ecotec engine. My issue is that the "service engine soon" light comes on when the weather temperature gets below roughly 50 degrees F and turns off when temperature is above this temperature. Car still runs with light on. Took it to Autozone and had them scan it. They told me that the "ignition Coli Pack" is bad. Question- since the "Service Engine Soon" light seems to be weather Temperature sensitive, could there be a different problem such as poor connection?. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You. Mark.S.

No. Believe what your engine scan is telling you and replace the coil pack. The light is not a temperature sensitive thing but your coil pack is kicking the error only when it is cold. This could degrade and leave you stranded somewhere you don't want to be.

Thank You for the quick reply. Yes, I am Planning on changing it, Just wanted a second opinion. I also noticed that on the connector at i believe the icm unit? the 5 wires connected here going to the coil pack. There is also an issue. When i looked at the wiring, i found a single purple wire with white stripe coming out of a separate split tube, which then is striped back and twisted around the solid yellow wire which goes to the icm connector. I think some one rigged this before i got the car. Not sure what the purple/wht wire is or where it is coming from. hopefully I can figure out this wire prior to replacing coil pack. Mark
