My engine moves when i change gears at a stop but when in motion it does make the violent movement. What causes this? Could it be transmission related or could it be engine mounts going bad?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

basically the engine moves violently when i put the car into drive and reverse. it started
shortly after i added a cold air intake (which has been removed since event). i was
thought to believe it could be from lack of air but after placing the old intake system on
the car and now the movement of the engine still persists. this only happens when the
car is put in drive or reverse from a standing position. i put the car in neutral and let it
roll to a start, it doesn't happen. also it has a very hard 1st to 2nd shift. could this be a
transmission issue or could the motor mounts be bad?

Motor mounts. Probably the front one, that is the one that takes the load from engine rotation. Have a friend, or better a mechanic, visually check movement with the hood open. It should be obvious.

Most probably your engine mounts and trans mount, you said when neutral no vibration at all coz there is no load.
