Olds Alero 2003 V6 removing throttle cables

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am replacing head gaskets on 2003 Alero but cannot see how to remove throttle cable from throttle body. The photos I have seen and descriptions show a different cable securing mechanism to mine. The innermost of the 2 cables uses the typical connection, but the outer one (nearest front) seems to have a plastic ball& socket arrangement where the ball appears to be secured with 2 small metal clips which do not want to bend when pinched with pliers. Attached is photo. Is this stock factory part anyway? Anyone successfully removed the cable from something like this?

Take flat screw driver on the inside and pry outward,it will snap loose,

Did exactly that and, it broke! That was why I did not try that before with any pressure.
