Posi IS Limited Slip. "PosiTraction" is just the name GM uses for their Limited Slip Differentials. So the real question is, do you have an open differential or a limited slip?

Matt is absolutely correct the limited slip allows you to go thru turns without wheel hop. If a car drives in a circle the outside wheels will have to go faster than the inside wheels because they have a longer distance to travel. So the limited slip gives you better control and drivability. The only reason you wouldnt want any slip would be beacuse your going straight only (drag racing). They usually are refered to as spools. The other option is a single track rear end that only puts power to one wheel at a time. If a rearend is in the air and you spin a tire a single track will spin the other tire in the opposite ditection. A "posi" or "limited slip" will turn both tires in the same direction.
