My 2003 Ford Crown Victoris LX sport has a problem with the trunk release.

Asked by Michael Aug 09, 2024 at 04:04 PM about the 2003 Ford Crown Victoria LX Sport

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Totally works normaly except it has a mind of its own. My trunk opens when
ever it wants. For about a year I have been having this issue. Cant find a
way to make it stop and cant find exactly what the issue is. Changed fuses,
clean door panel connection via mechanisn, cleen door release button
comnnection, etc..
I can unplug the turnk release wiring via inside trunk but my question is? Will
I be able to unlook trunk via key? I dont want to uplug, close trunk, then find
out I cant open it via ket. Trunk has a emergency trunk release handle.

Any ideas of why there is a gremlin running aound inside my Ford releasing
the trunk?

These even back then had sensor issues with the latch assembly. Replacing the assembly usually fixed the issues. But that old you may have trouble finding one. Possibly a locksmith can help you keep from locking yourself out of the trunk if parts are no longer available.

This may sound silly but take the battery out of your key fobs. If the fob is malfunctioning it can pop the trunk on its own. Also, if you carry the fob in your pocket, with other things, like coins, other keys, etc., those other objects could inadvertently press the trunk button on the fob. I've actually had that happen to me with my '08 Grand Marquis which is the same car as your Crown Victoria. Jim
