Bloody Murder Screech

Asked by avreymason11 Jan 02, 2019 at 03:23 PM about the 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It started last night, but only slightly. There
was a slight grinding sound that was coming
from the drivers side, and I wrote it off as
mud in the brakes and didnt bother. Woke up
this morning, got in my Jeep, and as soon as
I made a right turn this horrible screech
starts happening. This wasn't a tiny squeak
or slight squeal, no, this sounds like there's a
child under my vehicle and it's screaming for
its life. I have no idea what it is, I took both
driver side tires off to see if I could clean the
rotors and that obviously hasn't worked. I
tried doing research but I'm seeing
everything from changing oil to replacing the
drive shaft do that isn't working at all. I don't
really want to drive it since I'm getting a
variety of answers, and I can't help but grind
my teeth when I hear the screech. So in
conclusion, Jeep has very high screech
when I accelerate or turn right, too afraid to
figure out by myself, please help.

The only other thing would be wheel bearings. With the wheel(s) off the ground check for looseness or grinding as you rotate/wiggle the wheel. Also, how does the power steering feel? Normal? Maybe the pump is failing and causing the serpentine belt to scream as it is starting to seize up. The pump IS on the driver's side. Check the belt for abnormal wear, burnt smell. Tell us what you find.
