Manual or automatic? I am thinking manual because you say 'when I shift:..do you detect an odor, like clutch heating up?

Its automatic. Its a 4 cylinder toyota corolla. I started the car reved it up and it wasnt revin up. When i shifted it to go and stepped on the gas it wasnt going. When id let up off tje gas it would jerk a little bit then accelerate then id press tje gas again and it jus would not accelerate right away and if it did vert slowly. It wont even go over 25. My bf said it feels like its not hitting on all cylinders or something.
It could be so many things, being an automatic, I thought I had it already with bad clutch. So what I suggest is an OBDII scan, many parts houses will do it free, and give you trouble code(s). They begin with P followed by four numbers. That will eliminate a ton of guesswork, and throwing money in to parts you probably don't need. Bring the codes back here, and one of us will be happy to help, OR Google "OBD (then the code) and it will show you several sites with possible causes and solutions. Sorry I can't be more help. I have a Corolla and they can be tricky to diagnose
So this the same issue I am having with 2001 Toyota Corolla.....did you ever get this resolved...if so what was it....PLEASE!!!
