2011 Chevrolet traverse

Hellow everyone,my traverse was not starting and
then i started noticing smoke coming from the
starter so i took it out and replace it but now the
check engine light is flashing really fast and my car
won't start,any ideas of what could be causing
this,thanks in advance (the engine light flashing
started right after the starter got fried)

What happened with this car? I'm about to purchase the same make model and year with a bad starter. I need to know if the starter goes bad on these or if it's something else.
