The 12v battery can be maintained with a battery tender.

Go to a motorcycle place. They have a kit for a battery tender and pull off plug. I use one on my 3 year old tractor battery left outside (covered) all winter. A plug and lugs goes on the battery and a small charger plugs on and off when needed. The problem with modern cars is all the electronics (alarms, GPS, computer) that want a small tiny constant power supply. The battery tender is very tiny and any outdoor electrical plug will work on it
