2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Vent Noise
Asked by rmolino May 10, 2019 at 07:05 PM about the 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE AWD
Question type: General
My 2019 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid randomly makes a fluttering noise that is coming
from the hybrid vent located under the rear passenger seat. It stops when you
open the rear passenger door. It happens when the vehicle is moving or in
park. Dealer cannot figure it out since it happens at random times.

I would like to know new purchase drive home from dealer, drove again today to work less than 100 miles- a constant vibration same location real distraction/disturbance quite noticeable! I’m taking it after work and reading lemon laws
Brand spanking new Sound seems Inside cabin from rear right passenger area during driving (not sure if lundercarriage) varies intensity, constant and not sure of location/ specific gradually builds Disturbing noise taking it to dealer for diagnostic-
The dealer just told me it is the hybrid cooling fan motor bearings. They had to order the part but do not know when it will be in since it is a 2019 RAV4 hybrid. I guess they build them and then begin making parts later? :-(
Hello all, I had the same issue. Sounds like a loud old school film reel in the backseat. It’s the hybrid battery cooling fan. Mine was LOUD. I took it to dealership, they did nothing. BUT I did go higher to Toyota Corporate and they helped me be persistent with dealership. They finally determined it was a faulty motor in the fan. Replaced it, no sound. Call corporate. Be persistent. Take a video and sound clip of the noise. Good luck!
Thank you for the reply. Finally, the new hybrid fan motor came in. It was installed by the dealership in a few hours. It's been two weeks later and all is quiet.
Awesome! Curious. What was your trim? I have the 2019 XSE hybrid.
2019 XSE hybrid. Young tech at dealership said it is bad motor bearings. Of course they have to replace the whole fan. It took three weeks for part to come in.
After driving it twice it was taken back to the dealership and they said that the housing fan not seated properly causing noise. The dealership dhc added foam to the fan housing and case report! no comment was made on replacement fan parts nor any warning lights! Like if the fan was improperly blowing the hybrid battery —-now I’m wondering if maybe I should call the corporation.

I have a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid Limited. Bought it on a Sunday and on Wednesday I head a pop, flap, flutter sound. First thought it was a car of head of me that had backfired. A month later it’s still doing it, it’s not just a single pop but several for split seconds. It happens at highway speeds and definitely when there is a cross breeze. To me it sounds like it’s coming from beneath the driver and/or front passenger, but I haven’t been in the back seat when it does it. Don’t want others to have this problem but if you do can you share what’s been looked at and if it helped? Thanks.
My guess that the noise is coming from the hybrid fan located under the rear passenger seat. Use your cell phone to record the noise next time you hear it. Place the phone by the fan motor vent which is under the rear passenger seat. If the sound is not coming from that vent, it may be something else.
